Starting in 2018, The Pokemon Company began installing special Pokemon-themed manhole covers across all of Japan, known as Poke Lids. These colorful covers feature unique Pokemon designs and have become popular attractions for fans, who travel to find and photograph them. As part of the ongoing Pokemon Local Acts project, over 400 Poke Lids have been placed so far, helping to boost tourism in smaller towns and areas recovering from disasters. They even function as Pokestops within the popular mobile game, Pokemon GO.
