When people talk about the best anime, Demon Slayer truly stands out. It’s become incredibly popular worldwide, both as a TV series and in its movies, and its success is likely to continue with two more films on the way.

When people talk about the most popular manga, One Piece is undoubtedly number one. It’s been the best-selling manga worldwide for years, with nearly 600 million copies sold – far surpassing series like Dragon Ball and Naruto. Its incredible popularity isn’t just because it’s a long-running story; each new volume still sells exceptionally well. That’s why fans often call One Piece the King of Manga, or the greatest manga of all time.

Anime adaptations can be tricky, and One Piece has faced a lot of challenges over the years. The weekly One Piece anime has often suffered from slow pacing and weak animation. While the animation quality has gotten better recently, especially during the Wano arc, it still isn’t always on par with other anime series.

Looking at everything, I don’t think One Piece can really be called the top anime anymore. That title now belongs to Demon Slayer, in my opinion. It’s consistently shown how successful the anime adaptation is. The first season was amazing and really launched it into the spotlight, but honestly, that was just the start of something huge.

What truly sets Demon Slayer apart is its incredible success at the box office, a feat rarely seen in anime. Both of its films, Mugen Train and Infinity Castle, are the top two highest-grossing movies in Japanese history. It’s remarkable for a single series to achieve this, and it’s unlikely to happen again.

Will One Piece Ever Get A Movie As Big As Demon Slayer?

There’s Potential, But It Might Not Be Doable

While not the highest-grossing film in Japan, the 2022 release, One Piece: Film Red, was a huge success. It stayed in the top 5 at the Japanese box office for a while and continues to be a top 10 hit.

It’s really exciting to see this, particularly because the movie isn’t considered part of the official One Piece story, unlike the Demon Slayer films. Many fans feel a truly official One Piece movie could be a huge success for the series. Some are even hoping they’ll make a movie based on the God Valley arc.

While a movie adaptation sounds great, it could be challenging to create a faithful One Piece film. The series releases new episodes weekly, and many story arcs are very long. For example, God Valley is about to be animated as part of the Elbaf arc, which means fewer fans might be interested in seeing it in a movie after already watching it on TV.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we’ll get a big, official One Piece movie that continues the main story. This means any future One Piece films will likely be based on ideas Eiichiro Oda created but didn’t use in the manga, and instead shared with the filmmakers.

There are currently four seasons of the Demon Slayer anime available to stream on Crunchyroll.
