Mortal Kombat 2 Movie Will Now Release a Week Earlier

Just a couple of months ago, the Mortal Kombat 2 movie was delayed from 2025 to May 2026. Now, the release date has been changed yet again.

I was so excited for Mortal Kombat 2 to come out on May 22nd, 2026, but now it’s been moved up a week! We’re getting it on May 15th, 2026 instead, which honestly, I’m not complaining about!

The film’s release date has likely been moved to avoid competition with other movies coming out in May, which is expected to be a busy month for new releases. Specifically, this change prevents it from opening on the same day as the new The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, scheduled for May 22nd.

Is Mortal Kombat 2 Avoiding GTA 6?

Movie studios typically don’t pay attention to when video games come out, but the delay of this film might also be because its creators want to avoid competing with the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, which is planned for May 26th.

GTA 6 is shaping up to be a monumental event for the gaming world, potentially captivating millions of players. While movies rarely adjust to video game releases, this launch feels different, and it likely made sense for any studios that shifted their plans because of it.
