As a dedicated fan of George R.R. Martin’s world, I must say that the penultimate episode of House of the Dragon season 2 has been nothing short of thrilling! The drama and tension have reached new heights, and the introduction of new Dragonriders is a testament to the rich lore of Westeros.

In the series ‘House of the Dragon’, Rhaenyra Targaryen has experienced some challenging times. After much indecision and causing friction among her council, she ultimately mobilizes an army in one of the later episodes. Interestingly, her husband, Daemon, does not initially join her in the war effort. Instead, he departs for Harrenhal following the execution of his scheme, the Blood and Cheese plot, and stays there throughout most of the season.

As a fervent admirer, I’d like to share that my lady, Rhaenyra Targaryen, proposes an intriguing strategy: recruiting individuals with Targaryen lineage for dragon riding. It’s crucial to note that Jacaerys Velaryon, her heir, explicitly prohibits commoners from joining this endeavor. Instead, he invites the Dragonseed descendants of King’s Landing to seize this opportunity and attempt dragon mounting at Dragonmont. Rhaenyra extends a warm welcome, providing rowboats for their journey, and cautions them before the taming of Vermithor commences. In an unexpected twist, two dragons without riders find their matches in ‘House of the Dragon’. Ahead of the season finale, here’s what viewers should be aware of regarding these new riders and their mighty mounts.

Addam Of Hull And Seasmoke

Addam Wants To Learn The Ways Of Dragonriders

Following Seasmoke’s immolation of Ser Steffon Darklyn, he departs from Dragonstone in search of Addam of Hull on the shores of Driftmark. Pursuing Addam, Seasmoke gradually draws nearer, and shortly thereafter, Rhaenyra learns that a new Dragonrider has claimed him.

In another words, Addam doesn’t plan on stealing Seasmoke or aspiring to be a Dragonrider. Despite this, he has been eagerly waiting for an opportunity to showcase his skills. Subsequently, Addam pledges allegiance to Queen Rhaenyra, stating his commitment to fighting alongside her. Upon doing so, Rhaenyra escorts him to Dragonstone where he begins his training in High Valyrian, preparing him for the impending battles.

Hugh the Smith And Vermithor

Hugh Wants A Better Life For Himself

In the second season of “House of the Dragon,” a blacksmith named Hugh, renowned for crafting Scorpions used to slay dragons, enters Aegon II’s royal court. He requests that Aegon II honor outstanding payments, and the king agrees. As silver-haired Hugh attends to his unwell daughter amidst his wife, Kat, King’s Landing grapples with a food shortage. With their daughter gravely ill, Kat urges them to seek refuge with her brother in Tumbleton. However, Hugh remains reluctant to leave until the situation deteriorates further.

In due time, Hugh tragically loses his ill child because Aemond blocks the townsfolk from exiting the city, leaving him unable to maintain food supplies. Desperate for a more comfortable life, Hugh responds to Rhaenyra’s summons. He discloses his Targaryen lineage to his wife, who was previously unaware of this secret. Although not explicitly stating it, Hugh hints that his mother was the sister of Viserys and Daemon. As he sets sail for Dragonstone, Hugh observes Vermithor, the Bronze Fury, heading towards his boat. The Dragonseed survivors were eliminated, but Hugh manages to protect a woman by diverting Vermithor’s attention.

Here! Here! I am ready.

Hugh conquers the Bronze Fury by holding its gaze. The beast remains motionless, allowing Hugh to touch its scaly hide.

Ulf And Silverwing

Ulf’s Friends Push Him To Answer Rhaenyra’s Call

ulf, who had persistently declared his Dragonblood lineage, seized an opportunity when Rhaenyra granted the Sowing of the Seeds. Earlier, he proclaimed himself as the half-bastard brother of Viserys and Daemon, making him the uncle to both Rhaenyra and Aegon II. Displeased with the Green faction’s management of the critical food scarcity in King’s Landing, Ulf often visited a tavern where Dyana worked.

Ulf found himself amidst the Dragonseeds throng and skillfully eluded Vermithor’s fury. He accidentally wandered into Silverwing’s den, where the dragon seized him. Ulf’s lively and upbeat demeanor proved useful as he soared above King’s Landing to provoke the Greens. Aemond pursued him on Vhagar, but was compelled to retreat upon spotting fresh dragons over the Bay.

Sheepstealer And Lady Rhaena Targaryen

Rhaena Wants To Be A Dragonrider Like Her Sister

In the world of “House of the Dragon”, Sheepstealer, a character yet to make an appearance, has not been introduced as of now. On the other hand, Nettles’ role appears to have been eliminated from the storyline. By the final episode, it is expected that Lady Rhaena will be revealed as the new Dragonrider. As of the penultimate episode, Lady Rhaena remains in the Vale, where she is on a quest for Sheepstealer. She was tipped off that a wild dragon had appeared in search of food shortly after the war, and she believes this to be the dragon she has been searching for.

Based on its name alone, it’s clear that the ferocious wild dragon prefers to consume sheep, as remnants of their bones found near the Eyrie confirm. It is prophesied that Lady Rhaena will earn the title Sheepstealer and realize her destiny as a Dragonrider. As the fourth Dragonrider, Lady Rhaena follows in the footsteps of Addam, Hugh, and Ulf.
