As a seasoned researcher with over two decades of experience in observing and analyzing corporate dynamics, I find myself both intrigued and concerned by the latest development in the ongoing saga between Elon Musk’s X platform and the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) and the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA).
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, along with his social media company, have initiated a legal action against the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) and the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA). This is an antitrust lawsuit that alleges these organizations, as well as certain members, are engaging in unlawful cooperation, accused of violating competition laws.
GARM Leads Systematic Illegal Boycott Against Musk’s X
On Tuesday, Linda Yaccarino, CEO of X, publicly called out other GARM members such as CVS Health, Mars, Orsted, Unilever, and herself for engaging in a “systematic, illegal boycott” of the X platform. According to Yaccarino, this action has resulted in significant financial losses for X and its executives, totaling billions of dollars in advertising revenue.
We tried being nice for 2 years and got nothing but empty words.
Now, it is war.

A collective of advertisers and advertising firms are accused of plotting to deny specific platforms and content producers from receiving ad revenue. The video platform Rumble, who declared they’re part of a lawsuit against the group, labeled GARM as a collusive scheme. On their X account, they asserted that this secret alliance intentionally orchestrated an advertiser boycott on Rumble and others, emphasizing that such actions are unlawful.
Significant, Elon Musk expressed explicitly that his social media firm has been waiting approximately 2 years, hoping for the organization to rectify its actions. Yet, he stated they received only hollow promises instead, leading them to instigate the ongoing lawsuit, which the platform initiated in a federal court in Texas.
Looking at how GARM was established to tackle the issue of illicit or harmful material on digital media platforms, as well as stopping its monetization through ads, the allegations made against it suggest a major shift away from its original purpose.
Elon Musk Launches Multiple Lawsuits
As a crypto investor, I’ve found myself in similar situations before, where I’ve had to navigate through advertising challenges. Last year, much like me, Elon Musk faced attempts at blackmail through ads. In response, he vowed to disclose information about the companies instigating the boycott.
It appears that the legal battles are mounting, as Elon Musk has reinstated a lawsuit against Sam Altman’s artificial intelligence company, OpenAI. The allegations state that OpenAI violated its original charter by focusing on commercialization over its founding principles.
Despite ongoing lawsuits, Elon Musk continues to express his backing for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. In a recent development, Trump’s Democratic competitor, Kamala Harris, chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to be her running mate for the vice presidency.
