Borderlands 4 Planning a Fix for Frustrating Rafa Bug

Graeme Timmins, Creative Director for Borderlands 4, has announced that a fix for the Soltado skill is coming shortly. The game has had a very strong start, becoming the best-selling title in the US for September and achieving the highest launch sales of any Borderlands game, as reported by Mat Piscatella of Circana.

While Borderlands 4 sold well and received generally positive reviews at launch, it’s been facing a lot of technical problems, particularly on PC. The developers, Gearbox, have released seven significant updates in the past six weeks, and another is coming out today. This new update includes some controversial changes, weakening some of the game’s most popular and effective character builds, like the Vex infinite bleed build and the crit knife build.

Borderlands 4 Is Fixing Rafa’s Soltado Issue, But Not Yet

The upcoming patch for Borderlands 4 on October 23rd won’t fix a problem with Rafa’s Soltado skill. A player named Templar reported on September 19th that the skill wasn’t functioning correctly.

If you’re not familiar with Rafa, the Soltado artifact doubles the benefits he provides when Overdrive is active. Overdrive kicks in whenever Rafa uses his Action Skill, boosting your damage and movement speed. Simply put, Soltado makes those damage and speed boosts from Overdrive twice as powerful.

Currently, Soltado isn’t fully utilizing skill points from Class Mods like Rafa’s Devastating Dancer. This Class Mod is designed to double the benefits of Soltado’s Overdrive ability, effectively acting like an extra skill point. However, the game isn’t recognizing the bonus, and Soltado is only receiving the benefits of a single skill point even when the Class Mod is equipped.

A player named Templar reported an issue on September 19th and received a reply from Gearbox on October 21st, saying they plan to fix it in a future update. The next day, Graeme Timmins, Creative Director for Borderlands 4, shared a documentary about the game’s development on X (formerly Twitter). A user asked Timmins for an update on the Rafa Soltado fix, and Timmins responded that while it wasn’t included in the October 23rd patch, a fix is still planned for a future update.

While Rafa’s Soltado bug is probably a small concern compared to the larger technical problems in Borderlands 4, it’s good news that the developers have acknowledged it and are working on a solution soon.
