A recent discovery within the alpha version of World of Warcraft: Midnight hints that the new expansion might launch on March 10th. This timing would fit with the typical release schedule of past World of Warcraft expansions, allowing about six weeks for a pre-release event before the update goes live.
The next World of Warcraft expansion, Midnight, is coming early next year, though Blizzard hasn’t announced the exact release date yet. The final update before Midnight, patch 11.2.7, will be released on December 2nd, and Blizzard will probably announce the expansion’s launch date soon after that.
World of Warcraft: Midnight Could Release March 10
So, I’ve been checking out the latest World of Warcraft: Midnight alpha build, and it looks like Blizzard might have accidentally given us a peek at their plans! Wowhead dug into the game files and found a new, currently unnamed event scheduled to run from January 27th to March 9th. It’s almost certainly the pre-patch event for Midnight, getting us ready for the full expansion launch on March 10th. Pretty cool to see it laid out like that!

This proposed timeline fits well with how often World of Warcraft has been updating recently. January 27th is eight weeks after the release of Patch 11.2.7, which has historically been the target for major WoW updates since the Dragonflight expansion. Considering Legion Remix is also scheduled to end around the same time, this timeline seems very likely. While these dates aren’t final until officially announced, it’s a strong possibility this is what World of Warcraft will reveal when they announce the Pre-Patch and release dates.
This isn’t the first leak for WoW: Midnight; a French magazine previously suggested a February 26th release. While that date is still possible, a March 10th launch now seems more probable, as this latest information came from within the game itself.
If the release date is March 10th, players who bought the special “Epic Edition” of World of Warcraft will get to start playing three days early. This means they can begin exploring the Midnight expansion as soon as Friday, March 6th, after the game is updated. An official schedule for the release and any pre-release events should be announced soon, so everyone will know exactly when they can play.
