Skate: How to Perform the Crooked Trick

I’m really getting into Skate! It’s amazing how much you can do just by messing around with the controller’s sticks. Some tricks are easy to pick up, but others take practice. I was having trouble with the Crooked trick – you do it while grinding, and it’s actually needed for one of the daily challenges in Skate 4, the “Trick of the Day” challenge. So, I figured out how to do it, and I’m sharing the steps so you can nail it too and complete the challenge!

How to Perform the Crooked Trick in Skate

Okay, so I’m really excited to learn the Crooked grind in Skate, and before I even try, I figured out how to do it. It seems pretty manageable if you already know how to grind and keep your balance. But if you’re just starting out, like me, the first thing you need is a good rail – or even just a nice, clean edge. It’s super important that the rail is straight, not angled or anything, to make things a little easier when you’re first learning.

Find a simple rail to grind on, then ride your skateboard towards it. When you get close, perform an Ollie (quickly flick the right stick upwards) to begin grinding.

  • If you’re grinding to the right side of the rail, slowly push the Right-Stick to the upper-right position to perform a BS Crooked trick.
  • If you’re grinding to the left side of the rail, push the Right Stick to the Upper Left position to perform an FS Crooked trick.
  • If you’re grinding atop a rail, simply push your Right-Stick into either Upper Left or Right position to do a regular Crooked trick.

Okay, so to nail this trick, you really have to hold that Crooked position with the sticks the whole time you’re grinding. But here’s a cool tip: even if you don’t quite get Crooked right when you first hit the rail, you can actually adjust your joystick while you’re grinding to still pull it off! It’s awesome because it gives you a second chance to get the trick right.

How to Complete Trick of the Day – Crooked Challenge in Skate

To finish the daily “Crooked” challenge in Skate, you need to land the trick three times. You can find the challenge tracker by going to the tasks menu from the main screen. This menu shows your progress on completing the Crooked trick.

Okay, so if you’re like me and can’t find the Tasks section, you have to finish the “AR Mission Skater Eyes – Ripping for Rewards” mission in Skate first. It’s the very last thing you need to do before you can start the City Challenges – I just figured it out!

After finishing the mission, your character will reach rank 3. This unlocks daily challenges in Skate 4, allowing you to view and take part in them.
