Battlefield 6’s first season, titled Rogue Ops, launches on October 28th, and early access shows DICE and Battlefield Studios have delivered some exciting new weapons. The first phase of the season introduces three new firearms, and one in particular—a new sniper rifle—is expected to become a top choice for players who enjoy the recon role. It looks like this new sniper will be the best in the game.
The Mini Scout sniper rifle is designed as a faster, more compact version of the popular Scout Elite from Battlefield 4. It’s a great option for Recon players who want to target enemies from a distance. With the smaller maps in Battlefield 6, the Mini Scout could be particularly effective. This is just one reason why many players expect it to be a top-performing weapon when Season One launches.
Battlefield 6 Is Getting a New Best Sniper Rifle
The Mini Scout sniper in Battlefield 6 is remarkably fast – it fires, reloads, and aims down sights quicker than other sniper rifles, and it’s easier to move around with. While it’s designed to have lower shot velocity and damage as a trade-off for this speed, it actually performs just as well in real gameplay.
The Mini Scout deals 80 damage, while other sniper rifles in Battlefield 6 each deal 100 damage.
The low damage figure doesn’t seem to affect headshot damage, at least not in the Season One preview. While the two new maps in Battlefield 6 Season One are very large, the Mini Scout sniper was still able to get one-shot headshots at all distances, using the same 1.75x headshot multiplier as other snipers. Since most Battlefield snipers aim for headshots, any difference in damage from body shots isn’t really important.
The Mini Scout Has Even More Upsides
One potential drawback of the Mini Scout is its bullet speed, but it’s surprisingly quick. While its base speed of 880 meters per second might seem slow, it’s actually the second-fastest in the game, only behind the standard sniper rifle, the M2010 ESR, in Battlefield 6. Adding an extended barrel eliminates any concerns about speed.
This sniper rifle stands out with its remarkably low recoil, a 10-round magazine, and a faster firing rate. It’s a significant improvement – quicker, lighter, and just as lethal – making it especially effective for Recon players who prefer close-quarters combat. Overall, the weapon itself is a clear win, but Battlefield 6 players anticipating Season One should be aware that this power might create balance issues in the game.
The Unknown Variables Surrounding Battlefield 6’s Mini Scout
How players get this new weapon will be key to how well it’s received. During testing, the gun was immediately available with all its upgrades, but it’s unlikely players will have that easy access at launch – and that’s a good thing. However, unlocking weapons in Battlefield 6 can be challenging, especially if you’ve tried to get the PSR.
Battlefield 6 has faced criticism for making it difficult to unlock weapons and equipment, with challenges feeling overly long. The Mini Scout might suffer from the same issues. This is complicated further by the upcoming Season Battle Pass, which will likely include blueprints for the weapon, blurring the lines between earned unlocks and purchased content.
The first season’s Battle Pass, which lets you choose rewards, could also be the way players initially unlock the core weapon. This is a common practice in other games with similar Battle Pass systems.
The Mini Scout Is Sure to Be the Next Meta Pick for Recon Players
Despite some remaining questions about how to unlock the Mini Scout, it’s unlikely to affect the weapon’s popularity. The sniper class in Battlefield 6 currently has limited options, so players are excited about any new additions. Plus, the Mini Scout appears to be a top-tier weapon, and likely will be for quite some time.
