The August collection of Xbox Game Pass is particularly notable for featuring the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, which are remastered versions of the beloved 3D platformer games created by Naughty Dog.
In 2017, Blizzard Albanny, previously known as Vicarious Visions, launched the remastered trio of games. These were originally released as Crash Bandicoot (1996), Cortex Strikes Back (1997), and Warped (1998).
Although some remasters don’t always win over fans, the N. Sane Trilogy garnered positive responses from both players and critics. It received high praise, with an 80 score on Metacritic and a Very Positive rating on Steam.
Originally, the Crash Bandicoot series was created by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation, earning a dedicated following among the console’s enthusiasts. However, the journey that led to their appearance on Microsoft’s subscription service is quite complex.
From 2000 until 2023, the rights to the Crash Bandicoot games were held by Universal Interactive, but after it was acquired by Vivendi in 2000, Vivendi later merged with Activision in 2008. Last year, Activision was purchased by Microsoft for a massive $68.7 billion, ultimately transferring the ownership of Crash Bandicoot IP to the tech giant in 2023.
