This article contains spoilers from One Piece‘s Elbaf arc.
Both One Piece and Naruto are hugely popular manga series with fans worldwide. The creators of these series, Eiichiro Oda and Masashi Kishimoto, clearly admire each other’s work. Kishimoto has publicly acknowledged being inspired by Oda, and Oda has also drawn inspiration from Kishimoto’s techniques in his own manga. This kind of mutual respect and influence is common among artists working in the same field.
It’s great when stories borrow successful elements from each other, but it looks like Eiichiro Oda might be creating a situation in One Piece similar to what happened in Naruto. By making the villain incredibly powerful, authors often make it difficult to create a satisfying conclusion to the fight – something fans didn’t enjoy with Naruto‘s Madara Uchiha. It appears One Piece‘s Imu is heading down the same path, as he currently seems impossible to defeat.
Oda Is Making Imu Way Too Strong
Kishimoto Made Madara Almost Unbeatable
- Kishimoto didn’t know how to beat Madara
- Right now, beating Imu seems impossible
Chapter 1163 of One Piece finally revealed the full extent of Imu’s fighting power, and it’s clear they are incredibly powerful – seemingly unstoppable. After subduing Saint Saturn, Imu demonstrated a level of strength never before seen in the series, easily defeating six of the strongest fighters in the One Piece world.
I’ve spotted them – two new members of the Davy Clan, fleeing through the forest. They are pests and won’t be permitted to survive. — Imu to Rocks D. Xebec
The group included incredibly powerful figures like Rocks D. Xebec, Gol D. Roger, Monkey D. Garp, Whitebeard, Charlotte Linlin, and Kaido. Most of them were at least as strong as the Yonko, with Kaido being a notable exception. Surprisingly, even with all their combined strength, they couldn’t inflict any damage on Imu, which is truly astonishing.
This problem is very similar to what happened with Madara Uchiha in Naruto. The author, Kishimoto, made Madara so powerful that he struggled to find a satisfying way to defeat him. Ultimately, he had Black Zetsu defeat Madara after everything he’d accomplished, which was a widely criticized decision. Kishimoto did this to set up an even stronger villain, but the resulting battle was ultimately disappointing for many fans.

No Pirate Can Match Imu’s Strength
One Piece seems to be facing a potential problem: if even a powerful group of villains couldn’t harm Imu, it’s hard to see how Luffy can, even with the immense power of the Sun God Nika.
Watching Luffy battle the Five Elders on Egghead has been intense, and honestly, he’s clearly outmatched right now. It really hit me how much stronger Rocks D. Xebec was – he could take down an Admiral without even breaking a sweat, something Luffy really struggles with. Seeing as how Rocks wasn’t enough to beat Imu, it’s got a lot of us fans worried about what’s going to happen when Luffy finally faces him! But you know what? Oda’s a phenomenal storyteller, and Kishimoto (who helped with the recent chapters) has a different style. I’m trying to trust that Oda knows exactly what he’s doing and will give us a satisfying conclusion to this epic fight!
The newest chapter of One Piece is coming out this week, as it typically does on Sundays. While it’s released in Japan at midnight JST on Monday, most fans around the world will be able to read it on October 26th. The chapter will be available for free on Manga Plus.
