God of War & Insomniac’s Spider-Man Will be Playable on Next Xbox Console

According to recent reports, Xbox players will soon be able to play popular PlayStation games like God of War and the Spider-Man series on the next generation of Xbox consoles.

Microsoft and Sony are preparing for their next generation of consoles, even though many game developers are still creating games for older systems like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. We’re also likely to see a major change in which games are exclusive to each console.

Xbox has shifted away from having games that are only available on their consoles, releasing titles like Starfield, Forza Horizon 5, and Halo on PlayStation. Sony has also become a bit more open, recently releasing Helldivers 2 on Xbox.

While PlayStation exclusives like God of War, Spider-Man, and Ghost of Tsushima remain exceptions for now, things are expected to shift with the upcoming changes.

PlayStation Exclusives Coming to Xbox in New Era

Jez Cordon of Windows Central reports that Microsoft is planning to make the next Xbox more like a PC, potentially by allowing multiple digital stores – beyond the Microsoft Store – to operate on the console.

The ROG Ally X has already started paving the way by working with platforms like Steam and the Epic Games Store, and the next Xbox will offer similar compatibility.

Adding Steam and the Epic Games Store to Xbox consoles will allow games that were once only available on PlayStation, such as God of War and Spider-Man, to be played on Xbox. However, these versions won’t be traditional Xbox releases and may not include features like Gamerscore and Achievements.

It’s become confusing for gamers to understand what ‘exclusive’ really means, as the term is now used more flexibly than before. However, this trend is generally a positive development for players.

Hey, I just saw some screenshots floating around online from that cancelled God of War multiplayer game – pretty cool to see what could have been! Also, if you’re interested, someone dug up a gameplay demo of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, and it’s worth checking out.
