As a seasoned gamer who’s lived through the golden age of comic book movies and witnessed the evolution of superheroes on screen, I must say that the recent cameo of Wesley Snipes as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine was nothing short of electrifying!

One actor reprised his character from the Marvel comics in Deadpool & Wolverine. He last portrayed the role two decades ago, but his latest appearance in his superhero costume stirred the pot because a reboot had been announced five years ago.

In the movie titled Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman took the lead roles. Yet, it boasted a plethora of guest appearances, such as Chris Evans stepping back into his Human Torch role, Jennifer Garner reprising Elektra, Channing Tatum donning the Gambit mantle, and more. The abundance of these cameos prompted Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, to suggest that they might pave the way for MCU comebacks. Interestingly, one actor who made an appearance in this film last played his superhero character 19 years ago, and a reboot is already planned for his role. This cameo left many puzzled, particularly after he published a headline advocating to scrap the remake of the movie he initially starred in.

In a surprising appearance, Wesley Snipes reappeared as Blade in the movie titled Deadpool & Wolverine, a role he last played in Blade: Trinity back in 2004. This cameo left many spectators so astounded that one article was published, entitled “Scrap Mahershala Ali’s Blade Movie and Reinstate Wesley Snipes’s Daywalker into the MCU.” The piece by Sergio Pereira emphasized how Snipes truly dominated the scene when he deliberately acknowledged the audience, stating, “There’s only been one Blade. Only ever gonna be one Blade.” Interestingly, Snipes himself shared this headline on Instagram, leaving fans speculating whether he supported the article. However, it appears that he merely found the matter amusing, as evidenced by his caption, “Y’all are crazy! hahaha.” His post generated a variety of responses, with one commenting, “You reposting is even crazier.” Another defended Snipes, claiming, “He’s reposting because he doesn’t agree. Did you read the caption?”

In simpler terms, Pereira concurred with Snipes’ assertion that there is only one “Blade” character, implying that it might be appropriate for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to pay Snipes to return to his role. According to Pereira, Snipes’ brief appearance in the film surpassed any other cameo. He further explained that fans have loved Snipes’ portrayal of this character for over two decades and consider him as much a part of the Blade character as Hugh Jackman is to Wolverine. Essentially, there is a deep affection for Snipes’ interpretation of Blade, and it will be challenging to recreate it.

It wasn’t completely clear from Snipes’ recent post if he endorsed the decision to reboot the Blade franchise and replace him with Mahershala Ali. However, in a 2019 interview with Entertainment Weekly after the reboot was announced, Snipes seemed open to the idea. He thanked his fans for their support, congratulated Ali on landing the role, and expressed excitement about seeing Ali’s performance. In essence, Snipes seemed ready to hand over the Blade character to the talented Mahershala Ali.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but admire how superbly Wesley Snipes embodied the character of Blade. It’s no wonder he amassed countless supporters who remain loyal to this day. Yes, the series he spearheaded was a smashing hit and he truly was the original. But let’s not forget that there’s space for both actors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Deadpool & Wolverine is still showing.
