Bungie’s Marathon Reaction “Isn’t Great”, It’s Claimed

As a gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of promising titles that didn’t quite live up to their potential. The news about Bungie’s Marathon reboot has left me with a sense of trepidation. Given the recent history of delays and changes in leadership, it’s hard not to feel a bit pessimistic.

It seems the outlook for Bungie’s upcoming shooter Marathon isn’t particularly optimistic, according to Jason Schreier from Bloomberg. During a recent interview on the Friends Per Second podcast, he was asked about the game’s current status, and his response, as you might expect given the last two weeks, wasn’t overly encouraging.

He commented, “From what I’ve learned, it doesn’t seem promising.” It seems there’s a valid explanation as to why its execution was delayed by an entire year.

“The individuals I’ve conversed with express some skepticism about whether the project will meet its current deadline, but only time will tell.”

Schreier mentioned that he’s unsure about the precise date of the upcoming game’s deadline, but there’s a general belief that it might fall somewhere in the year 2025.

“I mean, the sentiment I’ve heard is not great around it at least as of a few months ago,” he said.

Over the past couple of years, the evolution of the Marathon reboot has faced numerous ups and downs. Originally, the game featured a unique gameplay design that allowed for customizable characters, but this was later altered to offer a selection of “heroes” instead. To add to the changes, Christopher Barrett, who served as the game director for Marathon, was replaced by Joe Ziegler from Valorant earlier this year. Unfortunately, the game’s executive producer also parted ways recently.
