The Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket app has quickly become a huge success, earning around $1.3 billion in its first year and surpassing the popular game Pokemon GO, according to recent market data. The gameโs developer, DeNA, is already working hard to build on this success and keep the momentum going in its second year.

The popular digital card game, Pokemon TCG Pocket, celebrated its one-year anniversary today, October 30th. Experts estimate it had one of the biggest mobile game launches ever, earning $1.9 million in its first day.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Makes History With Record Year 1 Revenue
After just one year, Pokemon TCG Pocket continues to be a huge success. Recent data from AppMagic shows the game has generated over $1.3 billion in revenue from players on both Android and iOS. This makes it the highest-earning Pokemon mobile game in its first year, surpassing Pokemon GO.

Pokemon TCG Pocket Made Over $8.66 Per Player Since October 2024
In its first month, Pokemon TCG Pocket earned $208 million and quickly grew to over $1 billion in revenue by late May 2025. Just before its one-year anniversary, The Pokemon Company announced the mobile game had been downloaded 150 million times. Considering revenue estimates from AppMagic, this means the game made around $8.66 for each download. The average revenue per player is probably even higher, as some people downloaded the game on multiple devices or reinstalled it.

Although Pokemon TCG Pocket has had a faster start than Pokemon GO did in its first year, surpassing Pokemon GO‘s total earnings will be a significant challenge. Currently, Pokemon GO has made about $7.5 billion more than Pokemon TCG Pocket. Also, Pokemon GO saw a huge boost in 2020 during the pandemic, reaching record revenue as it celebrated its fourth anniversary. The unique circumstances of increased spending during lockdowns are unlikely to be repeated for Pokemon TCG Pocket.

Okay, so I’ve been keeping an eye on Pokemon TCG Pocket, and it looks like the money coming in each month is dipping a bit. Honestly, that’s pretty normal for games like this after the first year. Most live service games struggle to keep up their initial success, and even fewer manage to do it repeatedly. What I’ve noticed is that we players tend to spend more around big events or updates, so it makes sense that DeNA is hoping their anniversary event launching on October 30th will get everyone excited and spending again. Hopefully, it’ll bring a fresh wave of content and get things going!
