The first generation of Pokémon featured 151 different creatures, and many have received updates and changes over time. The next generation of games actually added baby versions of some of the original Pokémon, and later generations continued this trend by introducing even more new forms of Gen 1 Pokémon for fans to collect.
Over the years, Pokémon have gained new forms and abilities. In Generation 4, some original Pokémon got new evolutions, and later, in Generation 6, many received Mega Evolutions. Generation 7 introduced regional variants – Pokémon that look different depending on the area they’re from, like Alolan Vulpix. More recently, Generation 8 brought Gigantamax forms, which are temporary but dramatically change a Pokémon’s appearance, similar to Mega Evolutions. These additions have given fans exciting new ways to experience their favorite Pokémon.
Since their debut in the 1990s, most of the original 151 Pokémon have received some kind of update – like new evolutions, special forms (Mega Evolution, Gigantamax), or regional variations. However, 16 of those first-generation Pokémon haven’t gotten any of these changes and remain as they were originally designed.

From what’s been revealed, it doesn’t look like the Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension DLC will include Mega Evolutions. If that’s true, these Pokemon likely won’t get any new forms – like regional variants or entirely new transformations – until the release of the Generation 10 Pokemon games.
Recent leaks suggest the next generation of Pokemon games (Generation 10) could be revealed on February 27, 2026 – Pokemon Day. If the leaks are true, the games are expected to release in late 2026 and will be exclusive to the Switch 2 console. While rumors point to the introduction of new regional forms for Pokemon, it’s currently unknown which creatures will appear.
When it comes to the original 150 Pokemon that haven‘t received much attention lately, Ditto and Mew seem especially unlikely to ever get new forms. Ditto’s ability is to transform into other Pokemon, so giving it an evolution wouldn’t make much sense. Mew is a Mythical Pokemon, though anything is possible in the Pokemon world! For now, Pokemon fans can anticipate the Mega Dimension DLC and celebrate Pokemon Day on February 27, 2026.
