As a gamer, it feels like Activision decided to hold off on sending a cease and desist notice until after the sale was finalized. If that’s true, it’s a real slap in the face for their own fans. It’s not cool when a company profits from potentially releasing a mod only to burn it down later. But hey, Activision isn’t exactly new to negative headlines, right?

Indeed, for players to engage with this mod, they should have owned a genuine version of Modern Warfare 1 Remastered on Steam. This means that the popularity of the mod could have boosted the visibility and earnings for Activision, the game’s publisher.

Although the act was legally permissible, a significant number of people consider it ethically questionable, given the widespread assumption that Activision could have terminated the project earlier before its release.

At this point, all we’re left with is feeling sorrow for the now-defunct community initiative that sought to revitalize the beloved Call of Duty game, which so many of us pine for.
