Largest Korean Exchange Adds PEPE/USDT Pair, PEPE Soars 13%

As a seasoned researcher with a keen eye for spotting trends and patterns in the ever-evolving world of cryptocurrencies, I find myself intrigued by the latest developments surrounding meme coins on prominent exchanges like Upbit. The addition of PEPE and BRETT trading pairs by South Korea’s largest crypto exchange has sent ripples through the market, causing both tokens to skyrocket in value.

According to a report by Chinese crypto journalist and blogger Colin Wu, Upbit, the biggest cryptocurrency exchange in South Korea, is introducing support for two new meme coin pairs: PEPE and BRETT, which can now be traded against the stablecoin USDT (dollar-backed).

PEPE, BRETT pairs added by Upbit, price skyrockets

Meme coin PEPE was launched in April 2023 on the Ethereum chain by a group of anonymous developers inspired by the popular Internet meme character Pepe the Frog. The coin quickly gained traction among investors and was added by major crypto exchanges, including the Binance behemoth. This meme coin brought a significant change into the cryptocurrency space since all meme coins before it were based mostly on dog breeds with Shiba Inu being the most popular one for that goal (DOGE, SHIB, etc).

In February 2024, the coin known as “BRETT” was launched on the Coinbase-developed Base chain. This digital currency is named after a character called Brett, who appears in Matt Fury’s popular American comic series titled “The Boy’s Club”.

In simple terms, South Korea’s leading cryptocurrency exchange, Upbit, has introduced trading options for two popular meme-based coins, Brett (BRETT) and Pepe (PEPE), using USDT as the pairing currency. Notably, Binance Futures is set to introduce a BRETTUSDT perpetual contract with potential leverage of up to 50 times. In response to the recent news, the value of PEPE surged over 13% in just 24 hours, climbing from $0.00000720 to $0.00000816. However, it has experienced a slight drop since then, decreasing by nearly 2%.

Regarding BRETT, the 69th largest cryptocurrency as per CoinMarketCap, it showed a significantly more vigorous response to its new listing in South Korea. Over the past 24 hours, this digital token surged by approximately 25% and is currently trading at $0.09318.

Justin Sun expects millions of meme coin users on Tron

On Monday, Justin Sun, creator of the Tron blockchain, posted on Twitter about the achievements of meme coins in the cryptocurrency world. According to him, “The triumph of meme tokens isn’t just due to luck.” He asserts that a significant factor behind their success is often the community that emerges around a particular coin.

“Sun posted on Twitter that the public will benefit from the prosperity of the cryptocurrency.” In another tweet, he revealed he had conversations with notable leaders of prominent meme communities about the meme-based system within the Tron network. Sun excitedly announced these figures intend to attract “millions of users” towards the Tron community. They are eagerly anticipating integrating their communities into the Tron ecosystem as soon as possible.

Today, I had a conversation with some key figures in popular meme communities regarding the meme environment on Tron.
