In February of this year, a series of five emails exchanged by Adam Back, the inventor of Hashcash, and Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, became publicly available as they were included in court documents filed in the UK.

16 years ago today, Satoshi Nakamoto initially contacted Adam Back regarding Bitcoin, which would be publicly introduced four months later. On August 21, 2008, the very next day, Adam responded with a recommendation to examine a paper titled “B-money” authored by Wei Dei. Wei Dei, a renowned cryptographer working on digital cash, is often mentioned as a possible candidate for Satoshi’s identity.

Initially, Satoshi and Adam exchanged a series of three and four emails. In the third email, Satoshi expressed gratitude towards Adam and they delved into the concept of B-money. The fourth email saw Adam expressing regret for not reading the Bitcoin whitepaper earlier, followed by his suggestion for Satoshi to explore a document titled “Micromint.”

On October 1, 2009, the concluding email was dispatched, in which Satoshi expressed gratitude towards Back once more and shared the news about the official launch of Bitcoin’s software. As per Adam’s public declarations, he did not revisit Bitcoin until late 2012.
