Cardano Welcomes Major Wallet Release Ahead of Chang Hard Fork

As a researcher who has closely followed the Cardano ecosystem since its early days, I can say with confidence that this latest development is indeed a significant milestone. The release of Daedalus version 6.0.0 and the approaching Chang hard fork are events that have been eagerly anticipated by many in the community.

A significant advancement for the Cardano community: The Cardano network is now hosting a significant wallet upgrade, coming at an exciting time before the Chang hard fork. This wallet update represents a vital move as Cardano readies itself for one of its most impactful updates.

The latest wallet update introduces the feature required for the much-anticipated Chang upgrade.

In their latest tweet, Input Output Global (IOG), the team behind Cardano, declared that they’ve launched Daedalus version 6.0.0. This release is suitable for mainnet, pre-production, and preview stages. The reason for this update is to enable users to navigate through the upcoming Chang hard fork and enter the Conway era. As a result, it may be advisable for all Daedalus users to upgrade to this version.

This version upgrades to node 9.1.0, Cardano wallet v2024-07-27, the dependent Ledger and Trezor hardware wallet libraries, fixes the Daedalus auto-update feature to resolve the issue when running Daedalus on Linux with enabled “AppArmor.”

As a diligent analyst, I’d like to emphasize that the Daedalus wallet is designed exclusively for desktop use as a full-node wallet. Therefore, any claims of a mobile version of Daedalus should be met with skepticism, as such a mobile variant might potentially be a fraudulent attempt to pilfer user seed phrases and ADA.

Chang upgrade approaches

The upgrade on Cardano’s network appears to be drawing nearer. As per a recent announcement from Intersect, an association comprising members within the Cardano community, this is the case.

According to Intersect’s latest update, approximately 80% of Stake Pool Operators (SPOs) in the Cardano network have updated to version 9.1.0 as of January 9th. This means that the necessary number of SPOs for the hard fork has been reached. As for exchanges, twelve platforms have expressed readiness for the update, while nineteen are still in the process – notable participants include Binance and Crypto.com.

For dApps, the first one to confirm its readiness for Chang hard fork has also been recorded.
