This can be risky, as these roads are constantly swarming with undead enemies, and it’s easy to miss the keys if you don’t know where to look – leading to failed attempts for many players. Luckily, we’ve gathered a complete guide to all the key spawn locations in Ashes of the Damned, explaining what each key does. You’ll need to deliver these keys to a locked chest in Ashwood’s Rabbit Alley to complete your final upgrade for Ol’ Tessie and continue the main questline of the Ashes of the Damned easter egg.

Okay, so to grab each key, you absolutely need the Necrofluid Gauntlet. When you see that little colored sparkle showing where a key is hidden, you have to shoot it with the Gauntlet. Then, quickly reload, and it’ll pull the key right to you! It’ll drop on the ground, ready to pick up. And here’s the cool part: each key gives you a special power-up, but it only lasts until you deliver it to that locked chest hidden in Rabbit Alley at Ashwood. So, grab the key, enjoy the effect, and then head straight for the chest!

All Bruin Key (Yellow Key) Locations in Ashes of the Damned

The Bruin Key can appear in three different locations, all within the Crashed Rocket area – the path connecting Ashwood and Zarya Cosmodrome. If you pick it up, you’ll only be able to use melee attacks, meaning no shooting! You’ll need to head back to Ol’ Tessie and the locked chest, as you’ll have to fight off zombies with your knife or other melee weapon instead of your guns. Here’s where to find the yellow key:

  • Found on the cliff just as you leave the gate from Ashwood to the Crashed Rocket road.
  • Collected from the crashed pylon in the middle of the Crashed Rocket road.
  • Located at the top middle part of the array tower at Zarya Cosmodrome, when facing southwest from the Crashed Rocket road.

All Nightbird Key (Red Key) Locations in Ashes of the Damned

The Nightbird Key appears in one of three locations along the road between Ashwood and Exit 115, near the Orda Graveyard. It’s difficult to spot because its red glow is easily lost amongst the fires in the area. When you pick it up, you’ll take some damage that won’t heal naturally. Because of this, it’s best to immediately drive back to Ol’ Tessie and head to the locked box in Ashwood to restore your health. Here’s where you can find the key:

  • Found at the back of the T.Rex skull that can be found on the floor when leaving Ashwood, when looking south.
  • Found within the left side of the T.Rex skull’s jaw, which is on the northwest cliff in the Orda Graveyard.
  • Found at the back of the project Janus trucks, northeast when leaving from Exit 115.

All Terrapin Key (Green Key) Locations in Ashes of the Damned

You can find the Terrapin Key in three locations on the Grounded Ship, which is between Ashwood and Vandorn Farm. The key always appears on or under the ship. Be careful when you grab it – it temporarily stops you from sprinting! You’ll need to quickly get back inside Ol’ Tessie, because the undead enemies are faster than you and can easily defeat you. Here’s where to look for the green key:

  • Underneath the ship, when facing east, sitting on two barrels.
  • Found on the surface of the ship, on a shelf within an open window that can be found when facing southeast.
  • Also on top of the ship, found within the slightly open door of a blue shipping container found when facing northwest.

Each key only appears in three possible places. If you’re still having trouble finding it, try moving closer to where it originally appears – it might not have fully loaded into the game yet.
