Although there were beings in the universe capable of overwhelming them, Saiyans were able to stand their ground against non-warrior civilizations like those on Earth and Planet Plant.
As a gamer diving into the universe of Dragon Ball, I’ve learned that the Saiyans were known for their insatiable hunger for combat and their knack for conquering planets under Frieza’s reign, both before and after their subjugation. However, most Saiyans were looked down upon as common warriors, with only a handful of mid-class warriors and even fewer elite fighters among them. King Vegeta, our ruler, was seen as the strongest Saiyan warrior before their extinction – though I’m not entirely sure if that was truly the case.
How Vegeta Compared to His Father in Terms of Strength
As the monarch of the Saiyan tribe, King Vegeta held the throne, yet he wasn’t the most formidable fighter among his people. Given this, it seems plausible that King Vegeta outmatched many low-ranking and mid-ranking Saiyan warriors. However, his strength paled in comparison to the high-ranking members of the Frieza Force and Frieza himself.
As a gamer, I’d put myself in King Vegeta’s shoes and say: When I got transformed into a Great Ape, my power level would have been somewhere around 100,000 to 180,000. That means I could take on most of Frieza’s toughest warriors in this form, except maybe Captain Ginyu. It’s hard to say for sure, but if I had survived Frieza’s attack on our planet, I probably wouldn’t have gotten much stronger, as I was already pretty close to my peak by the time of my death.

With how strong characters like Goku, Vegeta, Broly, and the half-Saiyan characters are, it’s easy to underestimate the Saiyan race’s strength prior to their extinction. The Dragon Ball universe is filled with world-ending threats, most of which would have had no issues dealing with any class of Saiyan warrior. Though not as strong as the main Saiyans – who have each achieved some level of the legendary Super Saiyan form – Saiyans were still among some of the stronger characters in the series when compared to those introduced before them.
As ruler of Planet Vegeta, King Vegeta ascended to a prominent position within the Saiyan society. A pivotal character in the Saiyan-Truffle conflict, it’s clear that King Vegeta was one of the most powerful among his people at one point. However, much like other Saiyans, his power is no match for some of the top fighters from Universe 7.
