Key Takeaways

  • Nobara’s unexpected return poses a threat to Sukuna with her Straw Doll Technique, adding to his imminent defeat.
  • While Nobara’s return delights fans, her character arc suffered from being sidelined, despite her importance in the story.

As a long-time fan of Jujutsu Kaisen, I must say that this week’s revelation about Sukuna’s finger and Yuji’s missing digit has certainly added a thrilling twist to the story! The power dynamics on the battlefield have shifted significantly with Nobara’s return, and it seems like we are finally witnessing the end of the line for Sukuna.

In just a few more chapters, the anime Jujutsu Kaisen will reach its conclusion, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the final showdown against the King of Curses, Sukuna. Fans are well aware that Sukuna is an exceptionally powerful being, as demonstrated during the Shinjuku Showdown Arc. However, it’s high time for Sukuna to meet his match and fall, paving the way for the upcoming generation of sorcerers to prove their worth by stepping up and taking control.

Over the recent chapters, Yuji has significantly grown stronger, and in doing so, he’s provided a boost to Megumi’s spirit, enabling him to defend himself effectively. Fans had been eagerly waiting for Nobara’s appearance, and fortunately, in JJK chapter 267, she made her return too.

The Death And Return Of Kugisaki Nobara

  • Nobara Lost To Mahito
  • Nitta Helped Her

In Jujutsu Kaisen, I’ve found Nobara to be an electrifying character that’s left quite an impression on me and many other fans. Though her screen time might seem scant compared to the story’s scope, as one of the main heroines, she certainly didn’t disappoint. Right from the get-go, I could see the potential in Nobara, just like Yuji and Megumi. Her unique abilities made her a real thorn in the side of countless foes, especially when she took on the Death Paintings and unleashed a formidable Black Flash – it was clear she was gifted beyond measure. During the Shibuya Arc, she demonstrated her value again, but the excitement didn’t last long because during her battle with Mahito, she tragically lost her life.

It was he who made contact with her face using the Idle Transfiguration Technique and destroyed a significant portion of it. This attack was incredibly powerful and it essentially left her for dead. Many fans have believed that Nobara had essentially died. However, a proper confirmation of her death was never provided to the fans. While she did fall, the author actually opened up the door to her eventual return by stating that while the chances for her survival were low, they were not zero. Later down the line, before the Culling Game, Yuji asked Megumi about Nobara, and once again, no confirmation was given to the fans, although it was implied once again that she wasn’t alive either.

In the final arc of the series called Shinjuku Showdown, readers noticed Yuji expressing profound longing for Nobara, hinting at a deep emotional bond that seemed to border on grief, as if she was no longer alive. Yet, there remained a glimmer of hope for her resurrection. In JJK chapter 267, author Gege Akutami surprised fans by actually bringing Nobara back into the storyline. This return has brought immense joy to fans because she is a central character and they feel that her role in the narrative should be expanded.

How Nobara Is A Big Problem For Sukuna

Nobara’s Straw Doll Technique Poses A Big Problem For Sukuna

Jujutsu Kaisen: Gege Confirms The Shocking Return Of A Major Character

In chapter 267 of JJK, Nobara dramatically reappeared after a mysterious absence. The preceding chapter had left fans puzzled as they saw Sukuna’s finger confined within a shrine, bound by ropes, with its location and situation uncertain. This week, it was clarified that the finger in question belonged to none other than Sukuna, and the finger Rika consumed was actually Yuji’s own digit. At the same time, Sukuna’s finger was near Nobara’s location, and she employed her cursed technique’s powers on it, inflicting significant pain and harm on Sukuna, even though he was not physically close to her.

She accomplished this through the power of resonance, which fans know is incredibly dangerous. Given that the finger belongs to Sukuna, there is a connection between this finger and his very own soul, and Nobara hitting it means that Sukuna is directly suffering from the inside. This, when combined with Yuji’s powers to hit soul damage ensures that Sukuna is on his last legs and that he is going to be defeated soon enough. Fans absolutely cannot wait to see his fall, and this time around, Nobara is chiming in as well.

Additionally, Megumi has joined the fray too, implying that the upcoming chapter could signal the end of the battle against Sukuna and wrap up this climactic storyline for good. The situation doesn’t seem promising for Sukuna, and with Nobara engaged in combat, the odds have significantly shifted. Now, it falls on Nobara and Yuji to bring a decisive conclusion to the conflict. As they do, the narrative can move towards wrapping up the remaining chapters of the series.

Currently, there are only four more chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen left. This implies that all the storylines previously established must be concluded within these chapters. While fans may perceive the ending as hurried, it’s important to remember that it’s the author’s decision. At this juncture, wrapping up this battle swiftly appears to be the optimal resolution.

Was Nobara’s Return A Good Decision?

Nobara’s Return Is Cool, But Her Character Arc Suffered

Fans are thrilled to see Nobara back in the narrative after her absence, as they had been pondering over whether she should return or not. It’s not ideal for a main character to die so early and have an insignificant death, which is why it seemed odd that Nobara was killed off permanently. However, for the story to make sense, she needed to be alive. We had expressed this opinion earlier, and we still hold this view now. The return of Nobara was necessary, but whether her comeback was handled effectively remains to be seen.

In the story, Nobara’s character didn’t have a substantial impact or much development throughout. Her growth was hindered and despite potential growth since her last appearance, it wasn’t demonstrated to the readers. This is because the author, Gege, mostly excluded her from the story for most of the series and only brought her back at the end. For her return to be more meaningful, it would have been better if she reappeared about 70-80 chapters earlier and played a significant role in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc from the start. While her return is still a good choice, the execution leaves something to be desired. However, fans can take comfort that Nobara will likely receive a positive resolution in Jujutsu Kaisen.
