Major European Exchange Teases New Meme Coin Listing

As an analyst with over two decades of experience in the financial industry, I’ve seen my fair share of market trends come and go. From the dot-com bubble to the crypto craze, I’ve always been intrigued by the power of innovation and the human psyche to latch onto something that seems fun and profitable at the same time.

As a researcher, I’ve taken notice of Bitstamp’s intriguing move, hinting at the potential listing of a fresh meme coin. The exchange, being one of Europe‘s oldest cryptocurrency platforms, has caught my attention by subtly using an emoticon of a cat with a sly grin – a symbol often associated with the world of memes and digital currencies.

The emoji, which is a cartoon cat variant of the sly and somehow mischievous smirking face emoji, has ignited discussions about the next meme cryptocurrency that could be potentially listed on the major trading platform.

It seems that Mog Coin (MOG) could be the next coin to be listed, given its strong potential. This Ethereum-based meme cryptocurrency, introduced last July, serves as the native token within the Mog ecosystem. Currently, MOG is seeing a 5% increase alongside the broader market. At this moment, the cat-themed meme coin ranks 134th in terms of market capitalization, boasting a value of $387 million.

Among the possible competitors, you might find Popcat (SOL), which could be described as “a cat living in a dog’s world,” MEW, or “a cat like never before seen in the world of dogs,” and Simon’s Cat (CAT). Other tokens based on cats seem to lack the recognition needed for listing on such a prominent exchange.

Warming up to meme coins

Bitstamp is recognized for its cautious approach when it comes to selecting listings, often choosing quality over a large number of options.

According to a report from U.Today, Julian Sawyer, who was once the CEO of Bitstamp, rejected the idea of adding Dogecoin (DOGE) to their platform in August 2021. This came after the token gained significant attention and popularity earlier in the year.

However, the O.G. meme cryptocurrency did end up appearing on the exchange in late 2022.

As a financial analyst, I’d like to point out that in addition to the coins we have here, other popular meme tokens like Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Bonk (BONK), which operate on the Solana network, are also accessible through this platform.

Getting acquired by Robinhood

According to U.Today’s report, Robinhood has agreed to acquire a well-known European exchange for approximately $200 million. This acquisition is anticipated to be completed by the year 2025.
