Squirrel With A Gun Is The Obnoxious Game We Needed It To Be

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I must say that Squirrel With A Gun has been one of the most outrageously entertaining games I’ve played in recent memory. The sheer absurdity of this sandbox puzzle game is a breath of fresh air in a sea of serious, story-driven titles.

Video games provide a platform for creators and technicians to materialize their creative thoughts into experiences that seem fantastical. Occasionally, you find games brimming with compelling narratives; other times, you encounter games boasting striking visual aesthetics. At times, what you stumble upon is simply Squirrel With A Gun

In simpler terms, this sandbox puzzle game stands out among many as an exceptionally whimsical choice to play. It shares similarities with games such as Untitled Goose Game and Goat Simulator, yet manages to create an experience that feels distinctly original

Right from the start, you can guess the general theme of this game. At first glance, it seems like a simple tale about an innocent squirrel, but once you discover a weapon, that adorable squirrel becomes the town’s troublemaker. You’ve got it now, the title of the game is… a hint at this twist!

Regardless, the game’s narrative spans from the start at the Secret Bunker to numerous locations within the town, and it’s brimming with an eclectic mix of events. You’ll find yourself navigating a house filled with lava, rescuing a wedding, participating in a western-style gunfight, among other things. It seems that each location is simply a canvas for the wildest ideas the game can conjure up, which isn’t necessarily a flaw. After all, it’s called Squirrel with a Gun, so a consistent, logical plot might not be its strong suit

In every zone, you need to gather Golden Acorns that serve as keys to access new weapons and vehicles. Additionally, you’ll find reload items and clothing to collect. Interestingly, some of the clothing affects gameplay; for instance, wearing an eye patch enhances your neck-snapping ability, ensuring that defeated enemies can’t recover

Regarding your arsenal, it’s quite balanced with a variety of weapons at your disposal. From powerful shotguns to versatile grenade launchers, and trusty six shooters, each weapon offers unique advantages and disadvantages. Specifically, the shotgun will provide you with an extra boost for jumping, making it particularly useful for tackling specific puzzles within the game. The sub-machine gun, on the other hand

Every weapon comes with its unique finishing animation, yet each firearm offers just one. Initially, these animations are entertaining, but they can become repetitive after some time. However, when you start feeling tired of them, activating one following a crowd of wannabe Agent Smiths rekindles the excitement once more

Instead of merely causing chaos in town, there’s more to it. The puzzles are not only tough but also fulfilling. For instance, figuring out the right arrangement of weights to open a staircase, mastering the art of grilling burgers for your disgruntled picnic guests, and discovering the specific gun required to access a particular building section all provide a suitable level of challenge that doesn’t force you to resort to online guides. Each area features a flagpole that can be scaled to get a bird’s-eye view of the level, with each section offering subtle hints about the tasks ahead

In this captivating game, I get the chance to engage in genuine showdowns against formidable foes, adding a layer of immersion and achievement to the experience. The first encounter is with “Father,” who commands an imposing tank. The second battle unfolds in mid-air, where I’m pitted against a helicopter that could rival any action sequence from a Mission: Impossible film

There are some things that frustrate me with the game. The biggest being the camera. It can be hard at times to really see what’s going on in the game, and manually reorienting the camera over and over can get frustrating. It would be nice to have a quick button click to reset the camera, especially during the more intense action sections of the game.

Additionally, there’s a chance for you to get hit by enemies firing at you with no warning other than checking your health status. While engrossed in the game action, it’s quite easy to overlook your health status and potentially miss important changes

Squirrel With A Gun Review Verdict

The Game “Squirrel with a Gun” is as irritatingly entertaining as one might expect. Occasionally, it may seem a bit sparse, but its compact playtime of around 5 to 6 hours prevents the experience from becoming overly monotonous

Despite its name, platforming and puzzles are the best part of the game. Each feels rewarding when completed and adds to the joy that comes from playing this game. The gunplay can get kind of dull after a bit, but it’s nothing that’ll stop you from completing the game

This game is ideal for individuals seeking something fresh and unusual yet budget-friendly, requiring less than 30 hours of commitment. It finds its niche well, serving as an enjoyable introduction to a series that will likely expand in the coming years
