One of the key figures in the Dogecoin (DOGE) community recently posed an intriguing question: “What’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever done?” This prompted Dogecoin co-creator Billy Markus, also known as Shibetoshi Nakamoto, to admit that selling his DOGE in 2015 was his biggest regret.

In the year 2015, Markus chose to distance himself from Dogecoin due to unease about the evolving nature of its community. During this period, he liquidated all his cryptocurrency holdings, including Dogecoin, primarily due to financial reasons.

Specifically, he chose to act due to his job termination and the decrease in his savings. The funds he obtained from his cryptocurrency investments were barely sufficient for purchasing a pre-owned Honda Civic.

After that point, it’s been evident that Markus no longer holds much, if any, Dogecoin; the only exception being a small amount he just recently disposed of.

Despite departing from the project, Markus remains a significant figure in the realm of cryptocurrencies. With over two million followers on X (previously Twitter), he continues to wield considerable influence within the crypto community. However, it’s worth noting that he has consistently stated that he is not currently part of any ongoing cryptocurrency ventures these days.

Currently, DOGE is trading at approximately $0.0945, representing a significant increase compared to its value in 2015. To put it into perspective, the growth exceeds tens of thousands of percent if we’re being straightforward. However, it’s also important to note that it stands 87.28% lower than its peak in 2021, indicating the challenge of predicting the ideal time for buying and selling these cryptocurrencies.
