LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Release Date Revealed

At The Game Awards 2025, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight finally got a release date and a new trailer. After over two months of silence from Traveller’s Tales and Warner Bros. Games, the trailer gave fans a better look at the game’s funny and dramatic moments, as well as introduced some villains that hadn’t been revealed before. Players can expect the game in May 2026.

The latest LEGO Batman game was revealed at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live on August 19th. The reveal showcased Batman’s combat moves, tools, friends, and enemies, along with fresh LEGO designs for the Batmobile. Staying true to the lighthearted humor of previous LEGO games, the trailer also hinted at the serious, dramatic storylines fans expect from DC’s iconic heroes, featuring Batman battling villains like The Joker, The Penguin, and Bane, as well as facing off against various colorful criminal groups.

During The Game Awards 2025, it was announced that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will be released on May 29, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store). The game will cost $69.99 for the standard edition. A version for the Nintendo Switch 2 is also in development, with a release date to be announced shortly. Pre-orders are open now and include three days of early access, plus a special Batsuit inspired by The Dark Knight Returns. A Deluxe Edition will be available for $10 more, adding a new story mission and “Mayhem Mode” in September 2026. This mode will introduce The Joker and Harley Quinn as playable characters.

The latest trailer surprised fans by bringing back some classic Batman villains from the 1990s movies. Two-Face and Mr. Freeze, based on their looks and personalities from Batman Forever (1995) and Batman & Robin (1997), are joining the roster of baddies in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Along with a new villain, Firefly, and returning foes like Poison Ivy and Ra’s al Ghul, players will have plenty of enemies to battle when the game releases next May.

When the new LEGO Batman game was first revealed, TT Games’ Jonathan Smith described it as the ultimate Batman experience. He explained that the game would draw inspiration from the best Batman movies, TV shows, comics, and previous games, aiming to recreate the feeling of Bruce Wayne’s entire 86-year history through a fresh storyline. The game’s reveal at The Game Awards 2025 showed images that long-time Batman fans will recognize, featuring everything from a modern Bruce Wayne reminiscent of Christian Bale to a Catwoman styled after the 1992 animated series. This broad range of looks is supported by the developers’ confirmation that the game will include 100 different costumes and outfits for players to use.

The release date for the new LEGO Batman game was revealed unexpectedly a few hours early through a strange leak on Steam. A post in English asked fans to add the game to their wishlists, but when viewed in Spanish, it briefly displayed the release date – May 29, 2026 – also in English. Fans on Reddit were surprised by the late-year release and stressed that the game needs to be highly polished after such a long development time. However, a video released in late September showed off the detailed LEGO world of the game, with impressive touches like water droplets and realistic textures, suggesting a high level of quality.
