PlayStation is celebrating 30 years of bringing popular games, consoles, and accessories to its fans. Instead of a traditional anniversary event, they’re releasing a special, limited-edition wristwatch for dedicated PlayStation players.
PlayStation and similar companies usually mark milestones with collectibles that gamers will actually enjoy. For its 30th anniversary, PlayStation released the following items:
- A limited edition PS5 console themed around the PS1
- A PS5 Pro console with a similar PS1 theme.
- A matching DualSense PS1 controller.
- A DualSense Edge variant of the same design.
- A PS1-themed PlayStation Portal.
- A 30th anniversary photo book.
- A PS1-themed pair of sneakers.
The limited-edition console and controller were incredibly popular and sold out fast, so many players were hoping for more accessories to celebrate the PlayStation’s 30th anniversary – perhaps a PS1-style headset or another chance to buy the collection. Instead, a special watch will be released. Only 300 of these watches will be made, and each one comes with a uniquely numbered ‘memory card’ – a nice touch that shows how much detail went into this collector’s item.
PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary Watch is Stunning, But It’s Going to Cost Gamers a Pretty Penny
This watch is undeniably beautiful, created through a partnership with the respected watchmaker Anicorn. However, it comes with a hefty price tag of $780 USD – costing more than a new PSVR 2 headset, a PlayStation 5 console, or even the 25th anniversary PlayStation bundle released a few years ago. The design cleverly incorporates PlayStation’s history: the number 30 is engraved on the back to mark the anniversary, the iconic four action buttons replace the traditional clock numbers, and the PlayStation logo sits in the center. The wristband is adorned with subtle, meaningful symbols, and the watch hands are designed to look like the beloved start and select buttons from the original DualShock controllers. Finally, the watch’s color scheme perfectly matches the original PlayStation console, completing the nostalgic look.
Esquire reports that this watch is a first for Sony – it’s the first time the PlayStation brand has appeared on a traditional watch, previously being limited to Sony’s own products and merchandise.
Interestingly, even though pre-orders start next week, you won’t be able to wear this watch until after the 30th anniversary passes – deliveries aren’t scheduled until June 2026. There are a couple of reasons why Sony might have chosen this approach. One possibility is that they didn’t want to release another anniversary bundle so soon after the 25th anniversary, as it might have asked too much of fans. Another factor is that this is only the 30th anniversary in Europe and North America; the PlayStation originally launched in Japan in 1994, making it the franchise’s 31st year overall.
Image via Anicorn, Sony Even though this surprising collaboration might not appeal to everyone, watch enthusiasts are sure to be excited about this unique PlayStation item. It’s visually striking, but fans will need to consider whether it’s worth the price – which is higher than the cost of the console itself – for this new accessory.
