Leaker Gives Update on Persona 6 and Persona 4 Revival

According to a reliable insider, development of Persona 6 is progressing normally, despite the lack of news from Atlus which has worried fans. This same source also provided updates on Persona 4 Revival that hint at where Persona 6 currently stands in development.

The first official hint about Persona 6 came in July 2021. Atlus, the game’s developer, posted job advertisements on a Japanese website, Green. These ads included a statement from Atlus executive producer Naoto Hiraoka, explaining they were hiring more staff to meet increasing fan anticipation for Persona 6. He noted that surpassing the success of Persona 5 would be challenging with their existing team, but didn’t share any details about how far along development was at that time.

Despite Taking a While, Persona 6 Is Reportedly Not In Development Hell

Despite it being four and a half years since initial anticipation, progress on Persona 6 seems to be going well. Reliable leaker NateTheHate recently stated the game isn’t stuck in development issues, responding to a fan concerned about a May 2023 report. That earlier report suggested Atlus was aiming for a 2024 release, so the current situation likely means a delay, though NateTheHate hasn’t shared any specifics about why.

Atlus Isn’t Leading Development on Persona 4 Revival, It’s Claimed

NateTheHate has also shared information about Persona 4 Revival, the remake of Atlus’s popular 2008 role-playing game, which was officially announced in June 2025. He clarified that Atlus isn’t directly developing the remake; instead, they’ve hired Tose Software, a large game development company based in Kyoto, to handle it. Tose, founded in 1979, is one of the biggest outsourcing developers in the world. A report from GameBiz in November indicated that Atlus and Square Enix were Tose’s biggest customers in the last year, providing over 22% of the company’s income for 2025.

Persona 6 Could Still Beat Persona 4 Revival to the Market

With Atlus only handling the upcoming remake, it seems fans’ worries about delays to Persona 6 are unfounded. Atlus’s internal team, P-Studio, appears to be fully dedicated to Persona 6, potentially aiming for a release around late 2025. Considering development started as early as 2021 and typical AAA game development takes about five years, it’s even possible Persona 6 could launch before the Persona 4 Revival, even though it hasn’t been officially announced yet.

Atlus Doesn’t Always Announce Games in Release Order

Atlus has a pattern of announcing a game, and then releasing a different title first. For example, they originally revealed Metaphor: ReFantazio as Project Re:Fantasy in 2016, but it won’t be available until 2024. Before that, they announced and released Shin Megami Tensei 5 in 2017 and 2021, respectively. We also saw this with Persona 5 Royal, which was announced and released in 2018 and 2020, while fans were still waiting for Shin Megami Tensei 5.

The announcement of Persona 4 Revival at the June 2025 Xbox Games Showcase didn’t include a release date, hinting that the game is likely still a ways off. Atlus will probably reveal more about Persona 6 soon, as the series is celebrating its 30th anniversary in September 2026, offering a natural time to share updates.
