New Divinity Will Feature Turn-Based and Co-Op Gameplay, Developers Confirm

Larian Studios has announced their next game will feature turn-based combat and allow players to team up in co-op mode.

During The Game Awards 2025, Larian Studios unexpectedly announced a new Divinity game, even though they had previously stated they weren’t working on a third installment of Divinity: Original Sin. Now, the developers are sharing details and answering questions about the new project.

Fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 Will like Divinity

In a recent interview with The Gamer, Swen Vincke, founder of Larian Studios, revealed that their next game will include turn-based combat and multiplayer. Vincke addressed criticism that Baldur’s Gate 3 felt similar to Divinity: Original Sin 2, acknowledging that the two games share many core elements. He believes that fans who enjoyed Baldur’s Gate 3 will also appreciate this new title, as it will be a turn-based RPG with cooperative multiplayer.

Players were unsure what to expect from the gameplay after the game dropped ‘Original Sin’ from its title, but now things are much clearer. The big question now is how the developers will bring something new to turn-based combat without relying on Dungeons & Dragons rules. They’ve got a solid foundation with the gameplay from the Original Sin series, and it will be interesting to see how they build upon it.

Great news for fans of Divinity: Original Sin 2! The game is now available with a free update for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. We’d love to hear what you think about its turn-based combat and cooperative multiplayer – share your thoughts in the comments!
