7 Most Unlikable My Hero Academia Characters Fans Can’t Stand

One of the main reasons My Hero Academia has become so popular is its memorable characters. While the story often centers on Deku, the series also gives other characters – like All Might, Bakugo, Ochako, and even villains such as Shigaraki and Twice – opportunities to develop and add depth to the world of My Hero Academia.

Like any popular show, My Hero Academia has a few characters that some viewers really dislike. Whether it’s due to their behavior or simply how they’re portrayed, certain characters just don’t resonate with fans. Here’s a look at some MHA characters that people tend to dislike, both heroes and villains.

Mt. Lady

I’ve noticed Mt. Lady, even though she doesn’t get a ton of screen time, really sticks with people – whether they love her or not. As a highly-ranked hero, she kind of embodies some of the problems with how heroes and society work in My Hero Academia. She really highlights some of the downsides of that world.

She has a very big ego and often seems to care more about the fame and benefits of being a hero than actually doing heroic things. However, she’s not a bad person – she’ll step up and do what’s right when it really matters. Still, her personality can be off-putting, and it’s easy to understand why some people don’t like her.

Overhaul

Kohei Horikoshi, the creator of the series, successfully made many of the villains complex and relatable, leading some fans to actually root for them – even preferring them to the heroes. However, Overhaul is different. He’s such a compelling villain that some viewers genuinely dislike him.

It’s no surprise that Overhaul is a widely disliked villain in My Hero Academia. While many villains in the series have somewhat understandable motivations, Overhaul’s actions consistently appear selfish and senseless. From his cruel experiments on Eri and mistreatment of her, to putting the leader of the Shie Hassaikai in a coma, and even creating drugs that eliminate quirks and killing characters like Sir Nighteye and Magne, fans have numerous valid reasons to despise him.

Minoru Mineta

When people talk about characters they dislike in My Hero Academia, Mineta’s name almost always comes up. While he’s not one of the strongest students in Class 1-A and doesn’t seem destined for a great hero career, his weak abilities and limited screen time aren’t the main reasons fans dislike him.

Mineta’s character is almost entirely based on being inappropriately flirtatious, which understandably bothers some viewers. While he has a few good moments, many see him as a tired and problematic stereotype.

Inasa Yoarashi

Inasa Yoarashi quickly became a memorable character when he appeared during the Provisional Hero License Exam Arc in My Hero Academia. He’s known for his very strong personality – he’s incredibly energetic and always speaks his mind. While these traits aren’t inherently negative, some viewers find his intensity off-putting.

The way Inasa first interacted with Shoto didn’t win him many fans, as it came across as a bit mean-spirited towards a popular character. While Inasa isn’t a bad character overall, it’s understandable why some people don’t particularly like him.

Yuga Aoyama

Throughout most of the story, Aoyama seemed harmless, though a bit irritating. While his exaggerated and self-centered personality bothered some viewers, the real backlash began when he was exposed as the traitor at U.A. High.

This development gave Aoyama, who had previously been a simple comedic character, more depth, but it didn’t make him popular. While some understood what he was going through, his irritating personality and significant betrayal were too much for most people to forgive.

Himiko Toga

Toga is a pretty divisive character in My Hero Academia. While she has a dedicated group of fans, many others dislike her or struggle to understand her motivations.

I get why so many people are drawn to Toga! It’s heartbreaking to learn about everything she went through as a kid – being rejected just for being different. But honestly, while I sympathize with her past, it doesn’t excuse her present actions. She’s definitely done some terrible things, and while some of those instances might have been self-defense, others… well, they weren’t. Despite all that, I think she’s going to remain a super popular character for a long time, even though she really rubs some people the wrong way – and that’s okay too!

Endeavor

Enji Todoroki, also known as Endeavor, is a very controversial character. His past behavior has significantly impacted the story and deeply affected his own life. For much of his career and before the events of the series, Endeavor was arrogant and overly ambitious. His desire to be the top hero, surpassing All Might, led him to mistreat, ignore, and ultimately damage his family relationships.

Endeavor undergoes a significant transformation throughout the series, confronting the hurt he inflicted on his family and accepting responsibility for his past choices. He abandons his relentless ambition, which damaged his relationships, and tries to make things right. Despite this growth and his efforts at redemption, many fans still view him as unforgivable due to the pain he caused, and he remains a controversial figure.
