Following the Covid-19 pandemic, video game popularity surged, with games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons selling exceptionally well and online multiplayer games such as Call of Duty and Fortnite attracting many new players. This led gaming companies to hire more staff to meet the increased demand. However, starting in 2023, the industry began to struggle. Companies like Microsoft, Embracer Group, Ubisoft, Amazon Gaming, and Sony started announcing layoffs and reorganizations to reduce costs. This resulted in game studios closing, projects being canceled, and employees losing their jobs – a trend that continues today, with Sony recently shutting down another development team.
