One of the year’s biggest PlayStation 5 releases was Ghost of Yotei, a follow-up to the acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima. Set around 300 years after the original, the game puts you in the role of Atsu, who seeks revenge on the Yotei Six – the outlaws who killed her family. Despite some pre-release discussion, Ghost of Yotei has been well-received by critics and has already sold millions of copies since launching on October 2nd. Currently, the game is only available on PS5, and PlayStation console owners can get it through a special free promotion.

Sucker Punch is ending the year by giving away free avatars for Ghost of Tsushima. Players can get eight different avatars based on characters, a bird, and a wolf. If you’re in the Americas, use code 8GGE-5H6P-QMTC to claim yours. Codes for Europe, Australia, Asia, Korea, and Japan are also available. Simply head to the PlayStation Store and enter the code for your region to redeem them.
These aren’t the first avatars based on the game Ghost of Yotei. Players who pre-ordered the game previously received seven avatars, including characters like Atsu and the Yotei Six, which is why they weren’t included in this new set. However, those earlier avatars were only available through pre-order, so some players couldn’t get them. Luckily, these new avatars are free for all PS5 players to download.
New Ghost of Yotei avatars are now available for PlayStation 5 players, adding to the growing collection of profile customization options. Some avatars can be found directly on your Profile page, while others, like those for Ghost of Yotei, require a special code to unlock. For instance, Sony recently released anniversary avatars in August for the 15th anniversary of PlayStation Plus, featuring themes from games like Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarok, Twisted Metal, Hogwarts Legacy, and Diablo 4. Expect even more avatar releases in the future, allowing players to further personalize their PS5 experience.
PlayStation is offering free PSN avatars as a promotion, and has also expanded its PS Plus game library with nine new titles for Extra and Premium members. Although Ghost of Yotei isn’t included, this month’s additions feature a diverse selection of games, including Planet Coaster 2, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage. PS Plus Essential members also have new games to enjoy this December, with Killing Floor 3 and Neon White added to the lineup, providing plenty of gaming options for the holiday season.
In addition to the new games added to PS Plus, the PlayStation Store usually has a big sale at the end of the year. While the recently released Ghost of Yotei might not be discounted, Ghost of Tsushima from Sucker Punch could see a price drop. If you prefer playing on PC, the Director’s Cut of the 2020 game is currently 40% off on Steam as part of their Winter Sale, which lasts until January 5th.
