A Lot of Pokemon Legends: Z-A Players Are Missing Out on a Free Level 50 Pokemon

Be warned: This article reveals key details about the endings of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Arceus, and Ruby and Sapphire. In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, players who finish the game can get a free, powerful Lucario (level 50) at the Hotel Z, but this bonus is easy to miss.

Lucario, often called the Aura Pokemon, was introduced in the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl games. It evolves from Riolu during the day when it levels up, but only if it has a high friendship level with its trainer. As a Steel and Fighting type Pokemon, Lucario is well-rounded with a diverse range of moves and a balance of attack strengths. It can effectively use moves like Aura Sphere, Flash Cannon, and Earthquake to battle various opponents. Lucario also has two Mega Evolutions – Mega Lucario and Mega Lucario Z – each with different strengths. Mega Lucario Z is faster and has more special attack power, but it uses its Mega Energy faster than the standard Mega Lucario.

A Free Lucario Waits In Plain Sight For Pokemon Legends: Z-A Players

Although you can obtain Lucario by catching and evolving Riolu early in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, players might be unaware they can also receive one for free. A user on the official Pokemon Legends: Z-A subreddit, Volt_l18, shared that they initially missed a free Lucario hidden inside a Poke Ball in Room 202 of Hotel Z. This Lucario belonged to Korrina, a Gym Leader from Pokemon X and Y, and comes with a message from AZ, the hotel owner.

You can’t get this free Lucario right when you start Pokémon Legends: Z-A. You need to finish the main story and see the credits first – which takes several hours. Once you complete Main Mission 37, “Operation Protect Lumiose,” you’ll receive a letter from AZ and a Poké Ball containing Lucario. This Lucario is Level 50, has a Hardy nature, and knows the moves Aura Sphere, Bullet Punch, Rock Smash, and Protect. It’s also guaranteed to be the standard color (not Shiny). Since you can catch and evolve Riolu into Lucario, getting this Lucario from AZ isn’t required to complete your Pokédex.

Free Post-Game Pokemon Are Not a New Concept

The free Lucario offered after completing Pokemon Legends: Z-A is a welcome addition, but it’s part of a long-standing tradition in the Pokemon series. Giving away a Pokemon after the credits roll started all the way back with Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. Once you became the Champion in those games, you could receive a level 5 Beldum from Steven, the previous Champion, at his home. This Beldum was the only way to obtain Beldum, Metang, and Metagross in those versions. This practice continued in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, where Professor Laventon would give you the two Starter Pokemon you didn’t choose at the beginning of the game after you finished the main story.

While Lucario and its Mega Evolutions aren’t the most powerful Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, it’s a dependable teammate that can really help you win if you build its moves and stats effectively. Because Lucario is so popular with fans, it will be interesting to see how future Pokémon games allow players to add it to their teams.
