Assassin’s Creed Netflix Series Brings in ‘Chernobyl’ Director

The director of the acclaimed series ‘Chernobyl’ will be directing the new ‘Assassin’s Creed’ series coming to Netflix.

Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed series is moving forward quickly. Last month, Toby Wallace, known for his role in Euphoria, was announced as the main actor. News also came out in November about where the show would be set. Now, we know who will be directing, as Netflix has brought on a well-known director for the project.

Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed Series is ‘Centered on a Secret War Between Two Shadowy Factions’

According to Variety, Johan Renck—the Swedish director known for the acclaimed HBO series ‘Chernobyl’—will direct the upcoming ‘Assassin’s Creed’ series on Netflix. Renck’s other directing credits include ‘The Last Panther’ and episodes of hit shows like ‘Breaking Bad,’ ‘The Walking Dead,’ ‘Vikings,’ and ‘Bates Motel’.

Roberto Patino and David Wiener will lead the upcoming Netflix series based on Assassin’s Creed, serving as creators, showrunners, and executive producers. Joining them as executive producers from Ubisoft Film & Television are Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, Matt O’Toole, and Genevieve Jones.

The plot of the upcoming adaptation hasn’t been revealed, but we do have some idea now, thanks to the logline. It states that the series will focus on a secret war between two shadowy factions. One of these factions is “set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will.” We all know which two factions the series has always revolved around. ‘

The series’ description also states that the Netflix Assassin’s Creed show will feature characters navigating important moments in history while fighting to determine the fate of humankind.

Some news for Assassin’s Creed fans: a remastered version of Black Flag, called Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, has been rated by PEGI. Also, upcoming games are expected to have more parkour and might even let you play as two characters at once.
