Pokemon GO Players Want a Holiday Celebration Feature Back

As a long-time Pokémon GO player, I’m really bummed that they stopped doing something that used to make the holiday events so special. It’s been a while now, but a lot of us still remember it and really miss having it back in the game! It just added a lot to the fun, and we’re hoping the developers will consider bringing it back.

Man, it’s wild to think Pokemon GO is almost 10 years old – it first came out way back in 2016! It’s definitely changed a lot since then. While it hasn’t always stayed at that initial hype level, there’s still a really dedicated group of us playing. They keep things fresh with new Pokemon, events, and challenges, which is cool. But honestly, lately I’ve been thinking about all the changes, and it feels like not every update has been a win, especially when you’re right in the middle of a seasonal event. It’s got me and a lot of other players reflecting on how the game’s evolved.

Pokemon GO Players Miss Holiday Incubators

The holiday event in Pokemon GO is nearing its end, but there’s one final part running until December 29th. A player on Reddit shared a funny meme showing two Pokemon GO trainers standing by a gravestone labeled “Free Daily Incubator.” This refers to a past holiday bonus where players could get a free, one-time-use Egg Incubator simply by spinning a PokeStop each day, making it easier to hatch Pokemon Eggs. This perk ended in 2021 and hasn’t been available since. Many fans commenting on the post expressed their disappointment and hope that the daily free Incubator will return.

Several players have noticed that the 2025 Winter Holiday event in Pokémon GO focuses heavily on hatching Eggs. These Eggs could contain special holiday Pokémon, like Pichu and Cubchoo wearing festive accessories, both of which hatch from 7 km Eggs. Because it’s usually easy to collect Eggs in Pokémon GO, many players quickly find themselves with more Eggs than Incubators. A daily free Incubator would be a big help in hatching these Eggs and finding the rare Pokémon they want. Plus, these special holiday Pokémon have a higher chance of being Shiny, making Incubators even more valuable.

Even before Scopely took over Pokemon GO, a helpful feature disappeared, and it hasn’t returned as of 2025. Many players now feel the game relies too much on in-app purchases, putting those who don’t spend money at a disadvantage. This is especially frustrating during events like the holiday one, because you need Incubators – which are usually purchased with real money – to hatch the rare Pokemon that appear in Eggs.

The good news is you don’t need to hatch Eggs to get every holiday-themed Pokémon during the event! The first part of the event lets you find Sudowoodo and Charjabug wearing holiday outfits in raids and in the wild. You can also evolve a holiday Charjabug into a holiday Vikavolt. The second part will bring even more Pokémon in festive attire, including Galarian Darumaka, Bergmite, Cetoddle, Dedenne, Stantler, and a special Shiny Eevee. So, even if you skip hatching Eggs, you still have plenty of opportunities to catch these special Pokémon.
