Indie games are now incredibly diverse. While some are created by small, innovative teams, others come from larger studios choosing to work independently. What truly defines an indie game isn’t how much money was spent making it, but its unique identity – a strong creative vision, a willingness to experiment, and a boldness to try new things.
The variety of exciting indie games was clear in TopMob’s annual Indie Game of the Year poll, which included both highly anticipated sequels and innovative new titles. After all the votes were tallied, Hollow Knight: Silksong was chosen as the 2025 Indie Game of the Year.
The highly anticipated sequel took the top spot with 21.7% of the votes, narrowly defeating Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Dispatch, which received 18.9%. Other contenders included Ball x Pit (8.5%), Peak (7.5%), Hades 2 (7.5%), Absolum (6.6%), Blue Prince (5.7%), and Schedule I (4.7%).
The excitement surrounding Silksong clearly translated into a successful launch, with players loving the game. Ultimately, its win highlights what’s so great about indie games – there’s no guaranteed path to success, just unique games that resonate with people. This year, the TopMob community overwhelmingly chose Hollow Knight: Silksong as their favorite.
