New 2025 Manga Has Officially Beaten One Piece In Latest Rankings

One Piece is consistently the most popular manga, and it’s broken sales records for years, remaining the best-selling series of all time. While other series sometimes excel in different areas, Manga Plus recently released its top manga highlights for 2025. Although One Piece was prominently featured, another series has taken the top spot – its most-read chapter surpassed One Piece’s.

Surprisingly, the first chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo became the most-read manga chapter of 2025. And the surprises didn’t stop there – Chainsaw Man actually overtook One Piece in popularity, which was a big shock for many fans.

I’m absolutely loving Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo! It’s become a massive success on Manga Plus – it actually took the title of biggest new series on the platform! At first, a lot of us started reading because of how amazing the original Jujutsu Kaisen is, but Modulo has really stood on its own and become something special. It’s a bit bittersweet though, because we’re already getting close to the end of the story!

One Piece Was Beaten By Jujutsu Kaisen’s Sequel

Chapter 1 of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Is The Most Read Chapter of 2025

It always surprises me when people act like other manga are bigger than One Piece! Seriously, when you look at total sales, nothing even comes close. Like, Jujutsu Kaisen is doing incredibly well with around 150 million copies sold, which is fantastic, but One Piece is already pushing 600 million! It’s just on a whole other level when it comes to numbers.

Get ready, because One Piece is about to reveal all of its biggest secrets! I’m going to finally share the mysteries I’ve been building up to this whole time, and it’s going to be an exciting ride. Hold on tight, and thanks for sticking with the story – I hope you enjoy the rest of the journey! — Eiichiro Oda, One Piece

Despite being incredibly popular, One Piece isn’t always the most-read manga. Manga Plus recently shared its highlights for 2025, and surprisingly, a chapter of One Piece wasn’t the most popular. That title actually went to a new manga called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.

There was a lot of anticipation surrounding the release of Modulo, especially because it was Gege’s first manga after finishing Jujutsu Kaisen. Fans were eager to see his new work, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The debut chapter was so impressive that it even overshadowed other popular manga like One Piece. Readers worldwide enjoyed and talked about this remarkable release, making it a truly special experience.

One Piece Was Also Beaten By Chainsaw Man

  • Chainsaw Man 198 Is the Second Most Read Chapter on Manga Plus
  • One Piece Is Third with Chapter 1161

It’s not a huge shock that One Piece has lost some ground to another popular manga. But the news isn’t limited to just one defeat. Chainsaw Man has now outperformed One Piece for two years running. In 2024, Chainsaw Man‘s 167th chapter was the most-read on the platform, and in 2025, it came in second.

Chainsaw Man’s chapter 198 outperformed One Piece, placing higher in the rankings than One Piece’s chapter 1161. While One Piece still achieved a respectable third place, many fans hoped the recent God Valley arc would result in a better ranking.

The Top 10 Includes Dandadan, Boruto, And Dragon Ball Super

In 2025, the most popular manga series on Manga Plus were Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, Chainsaw Man, and One Piece. Other series also did very well. Rounding out the top 10 most-read chapters were popular titles like Boruto: Two Blue Vortex (chapter 21, at number 4) and Dandadan (chapter 181, at number 5).

The most popular manga chapters of the year included Dragon Ball Super chapter 104 at number six, followed by the final chapter of Kaiju Number 8 at seven. Black Clover chapter 379 came in eighth, Spy x Family chapter 120 was ninth, and the first chapter of Otr of the Flame rounded out the top ten.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Was Also The Number 1 Biggest New Series

  • Initially Carried By The Hype Of The Original Jujutsu Kaisen Manga
  • JJK Modulo Is The Best New Manga Of 2025

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo had a fantastic year. Not only did it have the most-read chapter worldwide on Manga Plus, but it was also named the platform’s biggest new series.

I watched as Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo faced some strong contenders like Otr of the Flame and Metaphor: ReFantazio, but ultimately, it really stood out and came out on top.

It’s clear that the popularity of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo stems from the success of the original Jujutsu Kaisen. The first series built a strong following, and fans were eager to see what Gege Akutami would create next.

Dabura’s cursed techniques involve both darkness and light. This technique is essentially materialized murderous intent – something humans can’t even begin to put into words – and has been passed down through the Deskunte Tribe. (Narrator, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 15)

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is generating a lot of excitement on its own merits. The story introduces fresh characters and doesn’t depend on bringing back familiar faces to be compelling. It truly works as a standalone series, and that really highlights Gege’s skill as a writer – the new story doesn’t need the old characters to be good.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Is A Hit, But It’s Ending Soon

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has quickly become a hit with fans, which isn’t surprising given that it follows up on the success of last year’s hugely popular manga series from Shonen Jump.

Despite its popularity around the world, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is nearing its conclusion. This isn’t a surprise, as the author, Gege, initially stated it would be a short series. While fans hoped for a continuation, it appears the story will end as planned.

Things are really wrapping up in Modulo! The big fights are already happening – Yuka’s facing off against Dabura, and Tsurugi is battling Maru. Honestly, all we’re waiting for now is Yuji to jump back into the action and take on Dabura himself. I’m guessing we’ve only got about 10 to 15 chapters left, maybe even less, before the series concludes. It’s a little sad, but I’m excited to see how it all ends!

As a fan, I’m definitely hoping there’s more to come from Jujutsu Kaisen, even after the ending of Modulo. There’s a significant gap in time between the original series and Modulo, and a lot of us think that’s where the creator, Gege, will take the story next. It’s a really exciting possibility, but we’ll just have to wait and see if it pans out, or if Modulo truly marks the end of the series.

The sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen, titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, is currently being published in Weekly Shonen Jump. It takes place 68 years after the Shinjuku Showdown arc and follows Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki. Chapter 17 is scheduled to come out on January 4, 2026, at midnight in Japan (11:00 AM Eastern Time, 8:00 AM Pacific Time). Readers can access the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app.
