To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the Pokemon Trading Card Game is reportedly bringing back a popular promotion: special card packs will be available at McDonald’s. 2025 has already been a great year for the game, with several successful expansions released. The ‘Prismatic Evolutions’ set was particularly popular, and other sets like ‘Journey Together’ and ‘Mega Evolution’ reintroduced classic gameplay features. The Pokemon Company is also planning a large celebration in the near future.
In 2026, the Pokémon franchise will mark its 30th anniversary with a big celebration. The latest game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, came out in October and has already received an expansion called Mega Dimension. We might also learn about the next generation of Pokémon games in 2026, as rumors are starting to circulate. To start the anniversary festivities, Pokémon cards are reportedly returning to McDonald’s.
A Pokemon TCG Promo Pack May Be Available at McDonald’s in February 2026
Okay, as a huge Pokémon fan, this is exciting news! It looks like McDonald’s Happy Meals in 2026 might include a new Pokémon Trading Card Game promo pack! We don’t know exactly which Pokémon will be featured yet, but it’ll probably be a small set, similar to past promotions. The timing is awesome too – it seems like they’re planning to launch it in February to coincide with Pokémon Day on February 27th. Neither Pokémon nor McDonald’s has officially said anything about it, but I’m already hoping for some cool cards! Just last summer, Japan got a special McDonald’s promo with a really sought-after Pikachu card that scalpers went crazy for, so hopefully this next one will be more accessible for everyone.
Fans are likely to be closely watching the upcoming Pokémon promotion at McDonald’s, given past issues. Recent Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) promotions at McDonald’s have been plagued by scalpers taking advantage of high demand. McDonald’s had to limit purchases during a previous Japanese promotion—restricting customers to three Happy Meals per group—and will probably do the same for this anniversary event, as the special cards are expected to be very popular with collectors.

As the 30th anniversary of Pokemon approaches, fans are getting a sneak peek at what’s coming next year. The Pokemon Trading Card Game will start the year strong with a new set called Ascended Heroes, launching on January 20th. The Pokemon Company has begun showing off some of the cards, including Mega Evolutions for the starter Pokemon from Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and the first Pokemon TCG appearance of Mega Dragonite. Even more is on the way, as the Japanese version of the game has revealed the set following Ascended Heroes – called “Nihil Zero” – which will introduce Mega Zygarde to the card game.

The new “Ascended Heroes” expansion features incredibly strong cards, like Mega Feraligatr ex, which can defeat any Pokemon in a single hit. The Pokemon Company is also working hard to address recent card shortages by reprinting many sets from the Scarlet and Violet series. It looks like Pokemon is going all out for its 30th anniversary in 2026, so fans should keep an eye out for exciting new releases.
