All Shiny Locked Pokemon in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Shiny Pokémon have always been a popular part of the Pokémon series, and this continues in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. However, certain rare Pokémon – including legendary, mythical, and starter Pokémon – won’t appear as their shiny versions during specific, pre-determined encounters in the game.

Okay, so in Pokémon, sometimes a Pokémon is ‘shiny locked.’ That basically means no matter how much you try, you can never find a shiny version of it. You can reset your game a million times, and it’ll always be the normal color. If I’m shiny hunting in Legends ZA, it’s super important to know which Pokémon can be shiny so I don’t waste a bunch of time trying to find something that’s impossible to get!

What Pokemon are Shiny-Locked in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Okay, so I found out something kinda frustrating in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Basically, any Pokemon you get from a set encounter – like story missions, side quests, or even special trades and gifts – is guaranteed not to be shiny. They’ve locked the shiny versions out of those encounters. But don’t totally give up! Some of those same Pokemon do appear as regular wild Pokemon elsewhere in the game, and those ones can actually be shiny. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, honestly.

The Heracross you receive as a reward in Side Mission 002: A Use for an Evolution Stone! is guaranteed to not be shiny. However, Heracross you find randomly in the wild can be shiny, because those encounters aren’t predetermined.
