The 10 Strategy Games I am Most Excited For In 2026

Introduction

So, I’ve been digging into all the new strategy games coming out in 2026 and made a bunch of lists already. I decided to go a step further and rank the ones I’m most hyped about, from the games I can’t wait to play the most to the ones I’m just really excited for. I’m hoping this list will not only help me keep track of everything, but maybe you’ll discover a few new strategy games to add to your wishlist too!

I’m mostly going to explain what excites me about each game, not give a full rundown of how they play. I’ve played a few of these already, and even written some early looks at them – I’ll include links to those previews where available.

Tell me if you agree with my list in the comments, or even better, share your own most anticipated games for 2026!

10 – Empire Eternal

I truly believe the Empire Earth series shouldn’t have been discontinued. The original game was exceptional, and it’s so good I’d almost suggest funding a team to continue developing it forever! Seriously though, I have great memories of playing that classic real-time strategy game in the early 2000s – it’s one of the best overlooked gems from that era. Now, in 2026, Empire Eternal, a new RTS from MicroProse, feels like the closest we’ll get to another Empire Earth experience. If you haven’t heard of it, Empire Eternal blends elements of Age of Empires and Civilization, letting you guide your civilization in real-time from the Stone Age all the way to the distant future.

9 – The Last General

It’s hard to say if The Last General will truly live up to its ambitious goal of letting players command huge armies across massive, 400 square kilometer battlefields, complete with economic and production systems. But even if it doesn’t fully achieve that, I’m really impressed that one person is developing this game and it’s shaping up so well. It’s already earned a place on my list, and I’m hoping it will be similar to Manor Lords – a unique strategy game created by a single developer that offers something you can’t find anywhere else.

8 – Dust Front RTS

If Dust Front RTS lives up to its potential, it’s likely to be among my top three favorite games of 2026. The game is a real-time strategy title set on a bleak, dieselpunk world scarred by countless wars. Players command massive armies – potentially thousands of units – battling both humans and monstrous creatures. Its dark, gritty visuals, with a striking color palette of greys and reds, are impressive, and the animation of each unit is beautifully done.
