No “Significant Reveal” For Bungie’s Marathon Until 2025, It’s Claimed

No “Significant Reveal” For Bungie’s Marathon Until 2025, It’s Claimed

As an avid gamer with a soft spot for nostalgia and a keen eye for industry trends, I must admit I’m eagerly waiting for the Marathon reboot by Bungie. With a history of delivering epic gaming experiences, from Halo to Destiny, Bungie has always managed to keep me on the edge of my seat. However, hearing that we might have to wait until spring 2025 for any significant reveals is a bit disheartening.

It seems that we’ll have to wait a bit longer for Bungie to reveal their progress on the Marathon reboot project.

Based on information from Paul Tassi at Forbes, it appears there are no major announcements or significant reveals for Marathon scheduled before spring 2025 at the very least. However, he suggests that we might see a small update about the game in the meantime, but nothing substantial will be unveiled until next year.

What Is Going On With Marathon?

At present, it’s anticipated that Bungie’s Marathon will be released by 2025. Additionally, rumors suggest a retail price of around $40 for the game.

In his writing, Tassi notes that there were early doubts about monetization when the free-to-play game The Finals was released and faced difficulties in that aspect. However, Helldivers 2 being a successful $40 title for Sony validated the concept of premium pricing. Concord’s recent failure at the same price point didn’t alter this, and it’s too far along in development to switch back to a free-to-play model. Therefore, unless something major happens, it will launch as a premium game.

There will also be a battle pass system and cosmetic shop for microtransactions.

Regarding the game, it was emphasized that they’re moving towards a hero system similar to Apex Legends. This means each character will have distinct skills, and you’ll be able to tailor the weapons and equipment you acquire throughout your playthroughs.

Following the leadership transition from Chris Barrett to Joe Ziegler as Game Director, it was then that the shift towards individual heroes within the game occurred. Interestingly enough, despite this changeover, the distinct art style of the game has been preserved.

To wrap it up, there’s been talk about Marathon facing some challenges in its release. Recently, Bungie has faced trust issues with Sony due to problems with Destiny 2, resulting in layoffs and internal changes. With the disappointing launch of Concord, there’s now increased expectation for Marathon to perform well as a new game under Sony’s banner.
