By using Frost Awaken 1, players can hold down the Triangle button to charge the Leviathan Axe, turning it into an icy weapon. When used on an enemy, the next attack will inflict additional damage and further freeze them.
To successfully execute an attack, one must exercise careful timing as players should verify both the safety of charging and the safety of attacking an opponent to accumulate a Frost gauge. This initial upgrade is ideal, as it opens up more tactical options during combat, particularly when encountering foes vulnerable to Frost.
5 Freezing Throw 1
The Leviathan Axe is Thrown to Freeze Targets in Place
- Aim and Press R2 to throw the Leviathan Axe forward with force. Can freeze weaker enemies for a short duration.

Yet, there’s no denying the thrill they bring when unleashed in combat. From the get-go of the game, these blades are at my disposal, making it a shrewd move to invest early by unlocking the Flame Whiplash upgrade. With this enhancement, players can let loose a fiery spin of one Blade of Chaos by repeatedly pressing the Triangle button, adding a scorching touch to my brutal combos.
Infused with flames, the Blade of Chaos becomes empowered and can be utilized to strike and scourge foes, causing severe damage and igniting them. This fiery effect will continue dealing damage over time. Since Kratos will initially encounter enemies vulnerable to the Blades of Chaos in Midgard, this power-up proves beneficial for his combat.

Moreover, the Battlefield Awareness advantage will significantly boost Kratos’ combat efficiency, as while Kratos engages multiple enemies and delivers powerful combos, self-assuredly, Atreus will chime in with pinpoint accurate arrows from his bow.
In simpler terms, by employing the feature called Battlefield Awareness, Atreus is enhancing his AI’s readiness for battle. This, in turn, empowers players to inflict greater damage on opponents and stun them quicker. The reason being, they will have an assistant to aid them during the potentially perilous battles that lie ahead.
2 Watchful Protector
Atreus Takes Enemies Attention Away From Kratos
- Atreus draws enemy aggression when Kratos is under pressure.
In the heat of battle, especially at the start, it can feel like I’m outnumbered by relentless foes thirsty for my demise. Thankfully, Atreus has been growing stronger, more agile, and gaining confidence as he ascends to godhood. This growth has not only made him a valuable partner but also granted us a new ability that truly tips the scales in our favor.
With the role of Watchful Protector, Atreus could prove more useful as an AI companion, luring adversaries away from Kratos by engaging them in combat. This gives Kratos a chance to disengage from his foes, enabling him to concentrate his efforts more effectively.
1 Entangled Grip 1
Allows Freya to Freeze Enemies
- Freya can spawn vines from the ground that root enemies in place.
It’s possible that Freya may not start as an ally initially, but once she becomes one, it’s advisable to invest right away in her Entangled Grip skill. With this ability, Freya can generate vines from the ground and employ them to pin enemies down, keeping them stationary for a brief period, which helps reduce pressure on Kratos, and additionally, offers him a frozen target.
The “Entangled Grip” proves invaluable in keeping foes under control, preventing Kratos from being overpowered. It’s also beneficial when enemies are fixed in place, allowing Kratos to wreak havoc on them with his unbridled fury.
