How to Make Charcoal in Hytale

In Hytale, Charcoal is used as fuel and as an ingredient for crafting. Luckily, it’s quite simple to make, so players shouldn’t have much trouble learning how.

This guide explains how to obtain Charcoal in Hytale and why it’s useful. Here’s a breakdown of the process.

How to Make Charcoal in Hytale

In Hytale, you can get Charcoal by using any fuel source – like wooden sticks, logs, or plant fiber – in a Furnace or Campfire. When these items are burned to power the workstation, Charcoal is created as an extra item.

Whenever you cook food at a Campfire or smelt ore in a Furnace using anything except Charcoal as fuel, a piece of Charcoal will also be produced alongside your cooked food or metal ingot.

Workstation Recipe
Campfire Pocket Crafting (Inventory) Stick x4 Any Rubble x2
Furnace Workbench Any Tree Trunk x6 Any Stone x6

You can turn any type of fuel into Charcoal by putting it in the fuel slot of a Campfire or Furnace and starting it up. One fuel item will always create one piece of Charcoal. This is useful for consolidating different fuel sources into a single, easily stored item – Charcoal – saving inventory space.

While charcoal burns a bit better than wood or plant fibers, the difference isn’t huge. You likely won’t notice a major improvement in efficiency by switching to charcoal.

Is There Coal in Hytale?

Currently, coal doesn’t exist in Hytale. You won’t find Coal Ore when mining like you would Copper or Iron, and you can’t make Coal from Charcoal. However, the developers may add it in a future update.

I’ve seen a lot of people asking about coal in Hytale, and while it’s not something you find in the game normally, I’m pretty sure someone’s already working on a mod to add coal blocks. It’s not in the base game, but the modding community is awesome, so I expect we’ll see it soon!
