As a PlayStation fan, I’m really glad to see Sony finally cracking down on those low-quality, rushed games – the so-called ‘shovelware’! They just removed over 1,000 of them from the store, which is a huge step towards improving the overall experience for everyone.
Recently, there’s been a rise in low-quality, copycat games – often called ‘clones’ or ‘shovelware’ – appearing on console game stores. For example, a game called ‘Ebola Village’ that closely resembled ‘Resident Evil’ was recently found on the PlayStation Store. Similar clones of popular games like ‘The Last of Us’ (‘Grazy Zone Warfare’ being one example) have appeared before on various platforms. Now, PlayStation has taken action and removed all games published by a particularly prolific shovelware developer from its store.
PlayStation Removes All Games of Shovelware Publisher ThiGames
So, I was scrolling through X (formerly Twitter) and saw a post from RobThanatos (shoutout to Gamerant!) about something kinda wild. PlayStation just pulled all of ThiGames’ titles from the store. You probably haven’t heard of them, but they were known for those super simple, kinda silly games like Jumping Food Racer and a bunch of sequels. Seriously, they had 1194 games on PSN! That put them as the fourth biggest publisher on the platform, only behind eastasiasoft, Ratalaika Games, and Webnetic. It’s a pretty big clear-out!
As a trophy hunter, I definitely knew about ThiGames. They were famous for making really simple games – often called ‘shovelware’ – that were basically just designed to let you quickly and easily unlock a bunch of trophies. They even advertised how many trophies you could get in their games! Now, they’ve suddenly disappeared from the PlayStation Store, and a lot of people think it’s because of that new agreement between Xbox, Nintendo, and Sony to make gaming safer. It seems like they’re cracking down on these kinds of easy-trophy games.
Here’s the latest: PlayStation Plus is adding new games to its Game Catalog and Classics Catalog in January 2026. Also, PlayStation is taking steps to remove low-quality games. Let us know what you think about these updates in the comments, and come chat with us on the TopMob Discord server!
