Disney games can be inconsistent in quality, but many players enjoy them, especially those based on their favorite movies and shows, and often find them on platforms like Steam. However, Steam recently removed 14 Disney games from its store on January 15th, significantly reducing the available selection.
The recent internet obsession with the Cory in the House Nintendo DS game is surprisingly boosting its score on review aggregator Metacritic. However, fans of classic Disney video games were dismayed to discover that 14 titles have been removed from the Steam store. Here’s a list of the games no longer available:
- Afterlife
- Armed and Dangerous
- Cars Radiator Springs Adventures
- Chicken Little Ace in Action
- Disney Fairies: Tinker Bell’s Adventure
- Disney’s Hercules
- Disney Planes
- Disney Winnie the Pooh
- Finding Nemo
- Lucidity
- Phineas and Ferb: New Inventions
- Stunt Island
- The Princess and the Frog
- Toy Story Mania
Several of these games, such as Armed and Dangerous, appear to have been taken down from GOG, and Disney is actively working to remove them from the internet entirely.
Disney has a history of temporarily removing its games from availability, which has sadly led to several popular titles being shut down. Games like Pirates of the Caribbean Online, Toontown, and Club Penguin are examples of this, though fans have worked to keep versions of these games running even after Disney stopped officially supporting them. Because these games were designed for single players, it’s unlikely they’ll be brought back like Toontown or Club Penguin, making their recent removal from Steam especially disappointing for fans.
Which of Disney’s Removed Steam Games Are The Biggest Letdown?
Among the 14 games recently taken down, two originals—Afterlife and Armed and Dangerous—are particularly missed. Afterlife, a 1996 title from Lucasfilm, was a humorous and unique take on the city-building genre, similar to Sim City, where players managed both Heaven and Hell. Armed and Dangerous, also from Lucasfilm and Planet Moon Studios, was a comedic third-person shooter released in 2003 that playfully spoofed fantasy and sci-fi tropes. Many commenters on a Reddit post expressed disappointment about its removal, noting they didn’t even know it was available on Steam and wanted to revisit its distinctive weapons and characters. While Afterlife may feel dated, it’s still playable for city-building fans. However, the fact that Armed and Dangerous has aged surprisingly well—despite being over 20 years old—makes its removal feel especially unfortunate.
People are also encouraging players to buy and download other popular Disney games, like Split/Second, before those are taken off Steam too.
Many fans fondly remember the Hercules video game, and it’s disappointing to see it become difficult to play legitimately, often requiring old PlayStation consoles or resorting to piracy. While the Genesis version of Aladdin is known for being overly challenging, Hercules is considered one of the best games ever made based on a Disney movie. The game was praised for its impressive graphics, music, and voice acting, which were all on par with the film itself. It cleverly blended the styles of 16-bit and 32-bit games with exciting side-scrolling action, and collectible items encouraged players to fully explore each level. Unfortunately, this beloved Disney classic is now much harder to access.
Players who already bought these games on Steam will still be able to play them. The change only affects those who haven’t purchased them yet. However, it’s frustrating for fans that these Disney games were removed from Steam without any notice, leaving no chance to buy them before they disappeared.
