Magic: The Gathering Fans Are Finding Unreleased Cards in Lorwyn Eclipsed Prerelease Kits

A surprising leak has revealed over 30 new cards from the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set for Magic: the Gathering. These cards were found in early release packages for the Lorwyn Eclipsed set. Wizards of the Coast, the creators of Magic: the Gathering, have announced several exciting expansions coming soon, starting with Lorwyn Eclipsed on January 23rd. They plan to release seven different sets by 2026 and are heavily investing in new projects for the game.

2026 will be an exciting year for Magic: The Gathering, with four sets crossing over with popular franchises. The year kicks off in March with a full expansion based on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Throughout the year, players can also look forward to Magic sets inspired by Marvel, The Hobbit, and Star Trek. Plus, two sets continuing the game’s established storylines – Secrets of Strixhaven and Reality Fracture – will also be released. Recently, fans received a surprising hint about another upcoming Magic set.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cards Are Showing Up in Magic’s Lorwyn Prerelease Kits

Some early release kits for the new Magic: The Gathering set, Lorwyn Eclipsed, mistakenly contained promotional cards from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set. Fans have shared photos online showing over thirty different TMNT cards appearing in the kits, revealing some of the set’s rarest cards ahead of schedule. Wizards of the Coast has confirmed the error and provided instructions to stores on how to handle the mix-up. The Magic: The Gathering Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set is still scheduled to officially release on March 6th.

Recent previews of the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles expansion for Magic: the Gathering have revealed some exciting new cards. The expansion is bringing back the “Class” subtype for Enchantment cards, which was last seen in the Bloomburrow set. One leaked card, “North Wind Avatar,” lets players add cards to their hand from outside the game – a mechanic not currently available in the Standard format. This is similar to the “Learn” mechanic from the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion, leading some to believe that Strixhaven’s mechanics may return in a future Secrets of Strixhaven set.

Major Changes Are Coming to Magic: the Gathering

The latest leak controversy surrounding Magic: The Gathering comes as Wizards of the Coast implements significant changes to the game. Recently, Wizards announced the end of the popular “Buy-A-Box” promotion following the release of Lorwyn Eclipsed, meaning players will no longer receive bonus promotional cards when buying booster boxes at local stores. Lorwyn Eclipsed is also the first Standard-legal set since 1997’s Tempest to not offer a uniquely stamped promotional card with its pre-release kits. Instead, these kits now include regular foil versions of cards from the set as the promotional item.

Lots of leaked cards from the upcoming Magic: The Gathering expansion featuring Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles might reduce some of the excitement fans were feeling. Wizards of the Coast announced the partnership with TMNT back in October, showcasing many cards at New York Comic Con. This TMNT set is the second full crossover Magic: The Gathering has done with Nickelodeon, following the Avatar: The Last Airbender expansion and several SpongeBob SquarePants releases. With the Lorwyn Eclipsed pre-release events starting up, it remains to be seen if even more cards from the TMNT set will be leaked.
