2026 offered a fantastic lineup of games, from independent titles to larger-scale releases, covering many different genres. Highlights included Ghost of Yotei, a sprawling open-world action game set in feudal Japan; Donkey Kong Bananza, a fast-paced action platformer where you can literally break through walls; and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, a relaxed open-world experience focused on delivering goods and building things.
2025 was a great year for video games, and now we’re looking ahead to 2026. What big-budget, high-quality games ā often called ‘Triple-A’ titles ā can players expect? While many have confirmed release dates or timeframes, delays are always possible. Whether they’re released on time or not, the anticipation will be worth it.
Resident Evil Requiem

Resident Evil Requiem returns players to Raccoon City with a new protagonist, Grace, who is tasked with solving a string of violent crimes. Gameplay as Grace will focus on puzzles and stealth, requiring players to hide from dangerous enemies.
Fans who’ve been with the series for a while will be happy to see Leon back, and his story will connect with Grace’s. His parts of the game will focus more on exciting action and shooting, offering a different experience for players who prefer that over the scary parts.
Crimson Desert
The Next Big Open-World RPG
- Planned Release Date: 3/19/26
- Planned Systems: PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S
From what we’ve seen, Crimson Desert looks amazing, and if it lives up to the hype, it will feature a vast open worldāeven larger than The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Players will be able to explore this world by flying on dragons, battling robots, using their surroundings as weaponsāsuch as pillarsāclimbing trees, and enjoying a wide range of other dynamic interactions.
Crimson Desert features a lot of fun side activities, including arm wrestling, fishing, and playing the flute. Beyond these, the game offers everything from herding sheep and stealing carriages to battling large groups of enemies ā it looks like a fast-paced and exciting Korean action RPG.
007 First Light
Back To Bondās Age
- Planned Release Date: 5/27/26
- Planned Systems: PC, PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S
It’s been a long time ā since 2012’s 007 Legends, which wasn’t very popular ā since a new James Bond game was released. Now, with 007 First Light, IO Interactive has a chance to demonstrate their skills with a game that offers open-ended missions and a lot of freedom.
I’m really excited about getting to play as a younger Bond! From what I’ve seen, they’re giving us a lot of freedom to tackle missions however we want. I’m hoping there will be as many different ways to approach things as there are in the Hitman games, but we’ll have to wait and see. What’s clear is that the developers really know how to create action sequences that feel like a proper Bond movie ā it looks amazing so far!
Phantom Blade Zero
The Countdown Begins
- Release Date: 9/9/26
- Planned Systems: PC and PS5
After a long wait since its 2023 announcement, Phantom Blade Zero is almost here. Players will take on the role of Soul, a hero with a limited lifespan, though itās currently unclear how this will affect the actual gameplay.
Get ready for fast-paced, exciting combat! Phantom Blade Zero features smooth sword fighting, acrobatic moves, magical abilities, and a unique style. If you werenāt thrilled with the action in Where Winds Meet, this game might be exactly what youāre looking for.
Grand Theft Auto 6
Will This Be The Year?
- Planned Release Date: 11/19/26
- Planned Systems: PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
There’s been a delay for Grand Theft Auto 6 already, and people are now speculating about another possible setback. While the game is currently scheduled to come out in November, fans likely wonāt be overly upset if itās pushed back again.
This game is almost guaranteed to be good ā there hasnāt been a disappointing Grand Theft Auto title yet. The world of Vice City and its surroundings is huge and packed with things to do, whether youāre climbing mountains, kayaking, or getting into trouble to make money ā or facing the consequences.
Marvelās Wolverine
The Claws Are Out
- Planned Release Date: Fall 2026
- Planned Systems: PS5
I’m so hyped for Marvelās Wolverine! It feels like we’ve been waiting forever ā they first hinted at it way back in 2021! But the new look at it in 2025 really got me excited. Insomniac Games totally knocked it out of the park with the Spider-Man games, so I have a lot of faith they’ll do Wolverine justice. They clearly know how to handle these big Marvel characters.
The combat feels more intense and violent than in Spider-Man games, which suits Wolverineās famously fierce personality. While it doesn’t appear to be a completely open-world experience, the game features a lot of exciting, detailed environments and action sequences, like high-speed chases and battles in the snow-covered mountains.
Fire Emblem: Fortuneās Weave
Tactical Fans Rejoice
- Planned Release Date: 2026
- Planned Systems: Switch 2
Looking for a fresh take on the classic tactical RPG? Fire Emblem: Fortuneās Weave is the newest installment in the Fire Emblem series. Though the game features a unique setting ā appearing to be set within a grand battle arena ā the core gameplay remains familiar.
Players can create teams and move them across a tactical map to battle enemies using a variety of weapons, magic, and special abilities. Outside of combat, players will also be able to explore towns, though the extent of this feature is still unknown.
Onimusha: Way Of The Sword
Soul Sucking Samurai
- Planned Release Date: 2026
- Planned Systems: PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S
The last major Onimusha game, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, came out on the PlayStation 2 in 2006. That means Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a welcome return for fans, who are excited to once again battle demons and collect their souls in feudal Japan.
This new installment appears to have a more serious and ominous feel compared to previous games, though it still features some over-the-top demonic enemies reminiscent of past villains, like Gogandantess from Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny. Players will be able to fully explore the combat and story using sword skills boosted by demonic magic, with the game expected to release sometime in 2026.
Control Resonant
Broforce
- Planned Release Date: 2026
- Planned Systems: PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S
Released in 2019, the game Control connects to the world of Alan Wake. It follows Jesse Faden as she enters the Federal Bureau of Control, a strange organization, searching for her brother, Dylan. Inside, Jesse develops psychic abilities and gains a shapeshifting weapon, and the entire story unfolds within various buildings.
In Control Resonant, players take on the role of Dylan, a newly freed character who explores a city using a weapon that can change forms. This focus on close-quarters combat, combined with a fresh character and potentially a larger, more open world, could reignite interest in the Alan Wake series.
Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis
A Second Remake
- Planned Release Date: 2026
- Planned Systems: PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X
The original Tomb Raider game, released in 1996, quickly became popular as an action-packed adventure similar to the Indiana Jones films. It spawned a large franchise, and the first game was remade in 2007 as Tomb Raider: Anniversary. Lara Croft is getting another updated look with the upcoming release of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, planned for 2026.
If you enjoy blasting dinosaurs with two pistols, youāll be happy to hear that the new game appears to bring back many of the classic locations and environments. Plus, another Lara Croft adventure, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, is coming in 2027, making it a great time to be a fan of the series.
