A recent report details the upcoming ad-supported tier for Xbox Cloud Gaming, which is expected to launch in 2026, and explains how it will function.
A new Xbox Cloud Gaming option is expected to launch around 2026. Unlike the current service, this version will be free to use, supported by advertisements, and won’t require an Xbox Game Pass subscription. Early images of the service are already appearing online, hinting at a model where you watch ads while you play.
Ad-Supported Xbox Cloud Gaming Will Let Players Stream Their Digitally-Owned Games
Last week, a screenshot appeared online suggesting Xbox Cloud Gaming might limit free, ad-supported play to one hour per session. However, it seems this message was a mistake. Windows Central has since clarified how the service will actually work.

According to the report, ads will only appear in a specific Xbox Cloud Gaming plan, not all of them. Players using the ad-supported tier will be able to stream games they’ve already bought digitally, but won’t have access to the games included with Xbox Game Pass.
Okay, so the big news is Xbox is letting people try Cloud Gaming even without a Game Pass subscription! That’s awesome, because it opens things up for a lot more players. They haven’t said exactly when this new ad-supported tier is launching, but Jez Corden’s heard it’s happening sometime this year. Hopefully, we’ll get a proper announcement during the Xbox Developer Direct – I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
It’s unclear how long players will be able to play and how many ads they’ll see. Last year’s reports suggested Microsoft was trying out a one-hour play limit per session, with a total of five free hours per month. However, these details could change when the service is officially released.
Rumors suggest the next Xbox will run a complete version of Windows. Also, do you think we’ll see an ad-supported version of Xbox Cloud Gaming by 2026? Share your opinions in the comments, and come chat with us on the TopMob Discord server!
