In Hytale, smelting ores requires both the ores themselves and a fuel source to power your Furnace. The game offers a variety of fuels, so you’ll have plenty of options. It’s important to think about how efficiently each fuel burns, especially when you’re smelting large amounts of ore while you’re away from your base. Fortunately, Hytale provides a good supply of fuel, and the most common types are also quite efficient.

Best Furnace Fuel in Hytale

We’ve discovered that regular wooden logs are the most effective fuel source for Furnaces in Hytale. During testing with Tier 2 Furnaces smelting Cobalt Ore, we compared various fuels and found wood to be the best option.

  • 100 Charcoal is good for 33 Cobalt Ingots
  • 100 Sticks are good for 22 Cobalt Ingots
  • 100 Amber Logs are good for roughly 50 Cobalt Ingots. Only 70 logs were consumed in the process.

Amber Logs and other wood types provided the same fuel efficiency, meaning wood is generally a reliable fuel source. Plus, wood is easy to find and gather for smelting ores in Furnaces, except in areas with limited trees.

When you burn wood in a Furnace, you might get Charcoal. Charcoal is a great fuel source that makes your Furnace last longer.

Other Fuel Sources

Tree sap can be burned in furnaces as fuel, but it provides the same amount of energy as charcoal. If you’d prefer to save your wood for building, tree sap is a good alternative fuel source.

Plant fibers can be burned for fuel, but they aren’t strong enough to smelt ores. It’s best to save them for crafting recipes where they’re actually needed.

Farming Trees

You can grow trees anywhere you have space, even if the surrounding area is empty. To get started, you’ll need a Farmer’s Workbench. Within the Workbench, there’s a section specifically for Saplings, which you can create using Essences of Life.

Essences of Life are obtained by harvesting crops such as Wheat and Corn. While you can gather these from existing plants, growing your own is highly recommended. Building a farm in Hytale is key to making good progress and easily collecting ingredients.
